Hi Ice, i'm new, just joined the forums. I read some of your FTA equipment reviews and wanted to know if you've worked with Coolsat 4000 PRO. I just purchased Coolsat 5000 Platinum (still waiting to arrive) and wanted to know if its actually better than Coolsat 4000 PRO, because someone told me that its somewhat better quality than 5000 platinum is that true?

yep. I worked with both

I like the 5000 better

-little cleaner picture
-component outputs
-AC3 audio is already there...no need to jerry rig the menus to make it work

one drawback...only one set of a/v plugs on the 5000...the 4000 had 2

oh I know. I've got some old a/v distribution boxes (from Radio Shack) that work really good. 1 in 3 out and they're amplified. :)

But having the 2 sets of a/v plugs made hooking up cleaner and easier

i got couple of those 2...
Mine are somewhat fancier though :D

They are OUT 1 and OUT 2 .. and Input 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 .. for RCA jacks.... :)

(2 outs and 5 ins each)

Darkman

I know which ones your talking about...I have one of them too :)

This is what I was talking about (mine isnt svideo and only has 3 outputs)

Im trying to decide what receiver to buy and have some questions on the coolsat 5000:

Is it also available in black?
Can you select a default satellite so when you turn the unit on it goes there?
Can a Harmony remote control be used to operate the receiver?

Thanks

1. yes you can get it in black...just make sure the dealer has them in stock
2. not really. I just leave mine on SBS6 when I turn it off at night. Only option is to set a timer to fire at X time and go to X satellite.
3. probably...any learning remote should work. Some universals will work too :)
