When i got my coolsat 6000, it came with a card reader installed. what can i do with this? can i buy a card from some "company" to watch their programing? i've noticed like on sat 91w, nimiq 1,3, (bell) that they have some channels we don't get on our E* system, and just wondered if you can get a card to view their programing without buying any additional receivers or dishes. if you can purchase cards, how do you go about getting them, and what sat providers sell them? and NO, I DON'T WANT A HACKED ONE OFF EBAY!!! just wanna know if i can use this reader for something!
THANKS in advance.

mudflaps, fox tails, and ...

Dish and BEV won't support you in that way.

GlobeCast probably could, but I've read they only support their particular receiver.

Someone mentioned some other minor pay TV format that might work, but for North America, I think the card reader is just a useless relic.

thats probably why i got the reader free when i bought the coolsat! i just thought maybe some company would offer some kind of service to use the reader!

The card readers in FTA receivers last I knew had no legal purpose for north america. That's not saying someday in the future again it might be useful legally. The coolsat 5000 I bought came with a card reader also. I have no clue it it's even functional, but it's in there.

It doesn't really cost much (to make),
So leaving it in, means less inventory control for worldwide sales.
I'll bet the boxes all work on 110/220, and 50/60hz, too.
And PAL vs NTSC is just a programming change.
Why make more than one hardware version?

Besides, if you move to Europe, you can take this box with you, buy a subscription card, and have all the TV there you want.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but I don't think there's any card-hack that works in the USA.
The common procedure is very different, and we won't discuss it here.

So, card reader or not, it's no big deal.
Not any more than having a spare tire means you speed down the freeway. :)
There's nothing to be embarrassed about if you have one.

there used to be some porn channels on IA5 awhile back, I think they used a card in a normal fta receiver.
