Copying Video without Satellite Signal

I received a replacement DVR-522 because of an issue with the receiver ignoring the TV2 remote. TV2 remote would only work after unplugging receiver. New receiver works fine with TV2 remote.

Now I am trying to offload video on the hard drive of the replaced receiver to my external DVD recorder before sending it back. After 2 minutes when playing back video off the hard drive without a satellite signal the Connecting... screen comes up and ruins my recording!!

Anyone have any idea how to watch video without a satellite signal...?

i believe you have to unhook your sat inputs and do a check switch and then it will let you watch them without checking. I'm not sure though anyone know for sure?
