Correct me if I am wrong everybody, but I thought Discovery Networks handled the negotiations for BBC World News in the United States. I thought I had seen that in a few places. With that being said, shouldn't they be able to make BBC World News HD available? I know BBC World News is available on Fios and several cable systems. It would be an awesome addition, especially in HD. I know it's not launched yet, but it has been rumored by a few different sources.

Surely BBC World News HD would be a widely accepted addition as it would provide another great news station in HD, and it would offer a bit of an alternative to CNN and FOX News and MSNBC. Just wondering if anybody has anymore information or wants this channel as much as I do.

I'm usually an HD snob, I would welcome this one even in SD!

Search your receiver's Guide for "BBC World", it is carried on a number of channels, including most PBS, as well as BBC America.

It is only a half hour news program, it is far less in depth than CNN, although it is a good compliment, because it is less US-centric as covers Congo, Sri Lanka, etc. If you have a DVR, just tape it when it airs, having the channel full-time is not much help as they tend to repeat the same stuff all day.

I am gravitating more and more to CNN, because the best thing is to have first hand information. I hate when journalists say " The President today said ", rarther than just giving you video of The President (whether the previous one or the current one).

I was annoyed yesterday when CNBC showed a little video of the first White House Press Briefing of the new administration with reporters talking over it, so I changed over to CNN who had the entire thing uninterrupted by either journalists or commercials.

I'm also inclined to switch off any channel that talks about Natalee Holloway, Scott Peterson, Caylee Anthony and any similar non-news "features".

CNN and BBC both have their bias and slants that one needs to be aware of (a web search will easily give more information), but they tend to be more hard news than the alternatives.

Give me CNN Headline News any day. I stinks in prime time, but the format is good he rest of the day, particularly for Morning Express. Plus, Robin Meade in HD.

It is not a half hour news program. You are just seeing a daily summary show put together. BBC world is round the clock news similar to US channels, but more of an EU point of view (although really England). Note it is the most watched news channel in the world, essentially available worldwide except in the US... I love watching it when I am in Europe.

I think those poll results speak for themselves about how nice and how appreciated BBC World News HD would be. The only thing I am surprised by is that I thought Headline News would have gotten a few more votes.

Sorry, I have seen the channel itself and it is a half hour program at the top of the hour, followed by a half hour variety program, such as "Click", then the half hour news program repeats. Not unlike Headline News.

In the UK, they have a full time BBC news channel, bu that is not "BBC World".

If you read your own link, you would have found:

BBC World News For most of the day the channel produces 26 minute bulletins of international news beginning at the top of each hour.

For me FOX News Channel HD would be first, followed by CNN HD and BBC World HD tied for second. I find myself watching CNBC HD+ a lot lately too, and enjoy the world news summary programs on CNBC World. I also enjoy watching SKY News from the UK on the internet, and have found a way to watch it on my cellphone (original HTC Touch on Sprint). Helps pass the time when I am sitting waiting for something, like picking up the kids from school.

Don't hold your breath. Here is a recent reply I received from DISH to my request for BBC World and CNN-International:

"Thank you for your e-mail. We understand your concerns. We would like to add the BBC and CNN International channels sooner to make viewers like you happy. However, we do not have any specific information regarding your inquiry. Please understand that it is our intent to add a variety of programming and services to please current and future subscribers. We will gladly forward your request to our Programming Department for further consideration.":(

Sorry to say Guys But I'm more then Happy with My Local News in HD and CNN HD. Fox News out of the List is OK too .
If we were only aloud one of these channels. CNN would be my first pick, "And we have it"
Then Fox News HD, Then HeadLine News HD. The rest I don't care anything about.

CNN-America "dumbs it down" for domestic viewers. Both BBC-World and CNN-International give a more in-depth and global perspective. I get so much more out of their newscasts than anything offered domestically including the three major networks, and CNN, MSNBC, and FAUX.

Actually, BBC World is usually less in-depth. They never give any story more than 5 minutes at the most.

BBC World and CNN are generally aimed at the same IQ level, the middle-class professional.

CNN prime time programming (like Larry King) is dumbed down, but so is all prime time programming. The day time CNN programming is actually more hard news, and less biased than it was several years ago. "Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" between 4pm ET and 6pm ET is usually worthwhile, although heavily slanted towards politics (the last hour 6-7 is usually just a repeat of the earlier reports unless there is late breaking news).

Of course, BBC World has more programming on what is happening outside of the USA.

PS Dish does offer a EuroNews channel, check their website.

Sorry, but there are a lot of other programs on BBC World, including the vaunted Panorama and other shows of cultural contemporary interest and interview programs. Also, BBC World has very good live coverage of breaking news. There are also one-hour blocks of BBC World News programming produced, and it does change through out the day.

Looking at the very few hours that BBC World is broadcast on BBC America is not a good breadth of what BBC World has to offer. In addition, the lousy 2 half-hour newscasts offered to Public TV (NOT offered by PBS as part of the National Program Service, but by KCET, Los Angeles as part of the Extended Programming Service--costs the stations extra money) are taken by KCET precisely because they are only a half-hour in length, even though the morning newscast is really a one-hour program (BBC World Today) that BBC World provides stations a neat exit at about :27 after the hour, but the newscasts continues with more news and interviews (some good ones in the virtual studio) and the interesting light stuff at the end as KCET does NOT provide the remaining half-hour.

In other words: There is more to BBC World than what you have been allowed to see by KCET and BBC America.

On a related subject, does anyone remember seeing BBC America advertising that they would be broadcasting in HD by fall of last year? Whatever happened with that?

Yeah, I do. Probably more complicated and expensive than they thought. Just getting carriage is plenty hard enough.
