The public can weigh in Thursday on a request from Cox Communications to take over cable service for Mesa from Cable America, which holds the license.

Cox announced in January that it purchased Cable America's Arizona systems. Consumers in unincorporated Maricopa and Pinal counties, along with viewers in Mesa, Queen Creek, Coolidge, Florence, Gila Bend and Wickenburg, are affected.

The Cable America systems Cox purchased serve 35,000 subscribers and are contiguous to Cox's Arizona operation.

The public can speak at a 6 p.m. meeting at the upper level City Council chambers, 57 E. First St.
