CTC Emerges as one of the Fastest-Growing Providers of Competitive Telecommunication Services in the U.S.

WALTHAM, Mass. & NORTH HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2005--CTC Communications today announced that it has completed the purchase of Connecticut Broadband, following receipt of all required federal and state regulatory approvals. The acquisition reinforces CTC's status as one of the fastest-growing providers of competitive telecommunication services in the United States.

CTC is a leading provider of converged voice, Internet and data services to businesses in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The purchase of Connecticut Broadband marks CTC's second major transaction in the past six months. In May, CTC Communications purchased Lightship Telecom, a facilities-based provider of competitive voice, Internet and data services to New England businesses.

"By acquiring Connecticut Broadband, CTC continues its strategy of making investments in local markets to deliver new services and features to local businesses, while allowing those businesses to take advantage of CTC's broad network across New England and the Mid-Atlantic," said Ray Allieri, president and CEO of CTC Communications. "This transaction significantly increases the availability of integrated voice, data, and internet services in Connecticut, and it delivers economies of scale that will help produce even more innovative and cost-effective enhancements to our service portfolio."

Headquartered in Waltham, MA, CTC Communications operates a robust facilities-based voice, Internet and data network deployed from Maine to Maryland. With the acquisition of Connecticut Broadband completed, CTC will continue to serve Connecticut businesses from in-state sales and operations locations.

"CTC and Connecticut Broadband have a common philosophy on client relationships and customer service," said Bill Kaliszewski, president and CEO, Connecticut Broadband. "The Connecticut business community will continue to receive personalized attention from Connecticut-based staff as well as next-generation telecom services that are now available from the combined company."

CTC provides Connecticut businesses with a financially strong and customer-focused telecommunications partner, combining CTC's success in business-grade Voice over IP services with the data networking experience of Connecticut Broadband. CTC provides carrier class data services over its fiber optic-based all-IP network since 2000 and is an enterprise VoIP market leader throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

"The acquisition of Connecticut Broadband further propels us towards our goal of becoming the premier competitive local telecommunications service provider for businesses in our network footprint," explained Kenneth Peterson, Jr., chairman of CTC Communications and CEO of Columbia Ventures Corporation, parent of CTC. "We will continue to invest in our targeted service area and deepen the availability of CTC service."
