After almost 2 years my 722 stopped working. Came home last night and noticed the fan on the box was running even tho the box wasn't on.
Long story short the box is dead. Dish is sending me out a new one, will be here Saturday.

Here's my problem....... All the shows that are on that DVR. Does any one know a way to get those off? Also if I crack the box open will Dish freak out?

The saddest part of this story is I do have an external hard drive. But have gotten lazy in the last few months and not transferred over the shows I really want to keep. Big lesson learned there!

You might try subscribing to the Yahoo groups dishrip or pvrexplorer (mpeg-2 SD only) and see what procedures you might find there. ;) You can certainly open the lid without voiding the warranty, but there is a sticker placed over the internal disk that you may want to preserve.

I found this just taking a quick look around. I never did it and I don't recommended it but what you do is up to you.

Pulling video off the HDD is pretty easy. I've been doing it for a while.

Step 0) connect hdd to pc (either by usb or ide)
Step 1) install ext2fds
Step 2) start up dvr-dump to identify TS # you want
Step 3) use dgindex to demux TS from hdd to m2v & mpa audio.

Once you've done that, it's just a matter of muxing the a/v and so forth and so on.

I found this and it looks easier:

1. download pvrexplorer
2. run a ribbon cable from your to the hard drive in your DVR
3. start the pvrexplorer and it will detect and give you a list of all video files on your dvr to include any detailed info on the recording as logged by the dvr.,

Although your pc will not detect the drive the pvrexplorer will as it will recognize and process the Linux files on your dvr to mpegs along with a text file of the recording info for each video file.

good luck

Again I don't recommended it.
