I got my hands on a couple Direct Tv Phase III dishes yesterday and was wondering... If I went through the trouble to drop a Linear LNBF on it would it be alright for the NBC mux on 72W? Any experimenters with input?

I also got 3 direct tv D10-200 receivers which I know are useless. May be able to strip the jacks out of them for future projects.

Well since the expert's gave some good input, I guess it's worth putting it on the list of things to do. Have to talk to my machinist buddy about building a custom LNBF holder want that feed at boresight. :)

Just an idea

I wonder if I rotated the the reflector so it's taller vs wider if it would have more gain?

I'd use it as is, once you get the lnbf spotted in, should do a good job. I tried it with the old DP 20-21" dish, worked fine as long as it wasn't raining hard.

no its wider. A few years ago I had issues with a feed for North Dakota hockey. They were on G3 and my 30" dish kept giving low signal (just above threshold) due to a TP next door on 97W. Put up an old DirecPC dish that was 39x23 and the signal jumped from 30 (threshold) to 70 or so

The next year they moved to brand spanking new 89W and solved that issue :)

Okay then my 84cm ADTH is actually better then my 90cm Primestar for adjacent satellite rejection in theory. But then the Primestar being a HOT 90 don't have much of an issue on anything. :)

'taint rocket science:

My home-made bracket was called too complicated by some, and still it was simple.
Just drilled a hole through the bottom of one of the conduit hanger brackets (see discussion)

If you won't build your own, here's a ready-made bracket; just drill the one screw hole and you're done.

Maybe our supporters have this bracket; I Amazon.com: SINGLE SATELLITE TV DISH LNB BRACKET: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41GQ6KFJqlL.@@AMEPARAM@@41GQ6KFJqlL

AND, while you should have no trouble positioning the new LNB, here's a little guide:
