I have a 2 room install. I have a HR-20/700 in the front room and I have a D12-700 in my office. I'd like to run the D12-700 into my desktop computer in my small office eliminating the TV in that room.
I see that there is a USB port on the back of the D-12. Is this possible? If so, where do I find the software to interface the D-12 with my computer?
I know this interface is possible with some boxes but is it possible with either of the boxes I have?
I'm sorry if this sounds n00bish.
Thanks.

No, but you could buy a RCA to VGA cable and hook it up to your monitor.

The USB port on the D12 has two uses at this time:

1. Providing power to USB powered thingies

2. Providing wired remote control options

A capture card or an analog TV tuner card would allow you to pipe video in. Lkr's suggestion would require a special TV-ready display and/or a video switch of some sort.

For only $2.04 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 6FT VGA to 3 RCA component video cable (HD15 - 3-RCA) | VGA to 3 RCA component cable

Something like that wouldn't work? Unless D* has some weird HDCP policy, I thought it would be pretty basic. Of course, those are component, just put the cords into the composite slot and they'll work fine, however. You will need to come up with a solution for audio though through this method(Y cable to PC and using the PC to playback the line in works wonders).

You didn't read the description closely enough:
Description said:
IT WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT YOUR COMPONENT VIDEO SOURCES TO A REGULAR COMPUTER MONITOR OR HDTV unless you monitor specifically has this capability. Most do not. (Please check the documentation for your computer monitor)
When you found something that did work, you would still need a switch to be able to select the desired source.

Monitors that auto-switched between ports wouldn't work as the receiver never stops outputting signal.
