Heard a lot of rumors about the new Directv media center coming out after the launch of several satellites and the switch to MPEG 4. What I am wondering about is how they plan to get a signal from the box to each room in the house.

This would require an expensive re-wiring of everyones house. Mine would be impossible. I may have to cut off service in a year or 2 unless they have other solutions. Replacement of standalone boxes, keeping options for conventional setups.

To date, there's only rumors.
Relax for the said "year or 2".

The Media Center will be an option -- that's all.
I fully expect single-box HD MPEG-4 (non-Media Center) DVRs and standard MPEG-4 receivers.

Don't sweat it.

I'm hearing that they are looking at one of three options. Firstly all client boxes will have two USB 2.0 ports with one being used to connect to a customers home network and the other to connect the client boxes to the server.

The three options would be these below.

1. USB to coax adapter.
2. USB to ethernet adapter.
3. USB wireless adapter.

Which option they choose is unknown at this moment.

wireless

the next question is how to stop people from riding on my WiFi

it should have either WEP and or WPA ability security built in, now lets home that we can edit those settings
