Raycom Media Restores 43 Local Stations to DIRECTV Homes
09/07/2014
Channels Already Beginning to Return into Customers’ Homes, Guaranteeing Saints, Browns and Other NFL Fans Today’s Season Openers

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DIRECTV and Raycom Media have entered into a new agreement that will restore Raycom Media’s 43 local broadcast stations into DIRECTV customers’ homes immediately. The resolution guarantees New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns and other NFL fans will see their home team’s opening games starting at 1 p.m. ET this afternoon. Terms were not disclosed.

“We thank all of our affected customers for their patience over these past several days and regret that Raycom and too many other broadcast stations are willing to resort to these contrived blackouts to antagonize the public rather than serve it,” said Dan York, chief content officer at DIRECTV.

“Broadcast station groups who ransom their content back into their communities at exorbitant fees deserve the scrutiny of the Federal Communications Commission and local Congressional representatives. Raycom's intentional recent black outs of DISH, Cox and now DIRECTV customers creates an even greater sense of urgency for lawmakers to review and overhaul this anti-consumer retransmission consent process once and for all.”

This very much sounds like DirecTV got the short end of the stick in terms of how much they had to pay Raycom to get these locals back onto their service. This is not encouraging for me as a Dish customer as I'm sure the next time Dish's contract comes up with them they'll pull the same stunt. I'm not in a Raycom market, fortunately for me, but I'm sure that when it does happen it'll cause the rates to go up even further. Well, at least you folks got your locals back I just hope it doesn't raise your rates too much.

I HAVE A 40 FT ANTENNA AND I DON'T CARE IF D GOT RID OF THE LOCALS. BUNCH OF THIEFS ALL THE LOCALS ARE.

I wonder who caved?

Probably Directv they don't want to lose subs over this dispute, especially 1st week of football.

D* probably gave more than they wanted, but averted potentially losing more subs agreeing to something in between.

Being taken hostage by providers sux .

At least it wasn't off as long as the local Cable company was when they negotiated with NBC, they were off the air for about 5+ months.

Somehow The commish of the NFL might have saw my tweet and probably called Montgomery Alabama and EL Segundo California to get this dispute done ASAP. or the 2 sides (Directv and Raycom) came to an agreement. Just my opinion.

Rumor alert...

Rumor has it that even though the channels are back now... they could go away again as the deal is not done yet.

That would suck and be a deal breaker for me to switch.

What would suck ?
The channels are back on and as long as the sides are working towards a resolution, which they must be or they wouldn't have returned the channels, they will stay.

Deal breaker ?

If your refering to DISH, they drop channels all the time and often never come back.

D* rarely ever loses channels (locals).

That sucks... It sounds like Raycom is playing hardball again and is bipolar. Why would you agree to an tentative agreement and then change that agreement? At least the stations are still up for now! Hopefully it remains that way, but given Raycoms track record, I wouldn't be surprised if Directv is forced by Raycom to pull them again.

Raycom got all ticked off over Directvs press release last week and released their own trashing Direct. Doesnt surprise me they arent done now.

If Direct really thinks that Congress cares about the consumer for any industry or service, then they are fools.
Both parties have their candidates bought out by the highest bidder, you can thank the Supreme Courts Citizens United decision for this crap.
