Disapointed

Kountzer,

The receiver you have is a Dish receiver, since SkyAngel never made their own. However the later receivers, especially the DVRs, are much better. :)

Brad,

I realize this. I am bidding like crazy on DVRs, namely the 510 or a 508.

Btw, which one do you think is the best?

In answer to the statment about stealing S.A. Svc. yes it is only transferable if it's to a nonpofit org. so using someone elses liftime mbrship is stealing.
I am glad that The Hallmark, Hallmark Movie Channel, Fox News and HGTV have been added to S.A'S Channel lineup. they are all i subscribe to if you call it that. i got the lifetime mbrship almost 2.5 yrs ago last time they offered it. adn i don't regret it. i do not agree w/ a lot of the so called minestries on there, but i got it for the family shows ie... Andy Griffith, Lucy, Make Room for Daddy, Bonanza, Faith Tv, Pax. I hpe they continue to grow and become bigger than the other Sat Co's out there. at least S.A. don't have pornographic channels or shows on thier sat system.
Have a blessed Day,

They are the same receiver except for 2 things.

1) 510 has a larger hard drive (hold more recordings)
2) 510 has a $4.99 monthly PVR fee.

I would stick with the 508 or even a 501.

Dishstore.net (supporter of this site) has a 508 for $179+ free shipping: http://www.dishstore.net/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=234

and a 501 for $129 + free shipping: http://www.dishstore.net/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=239

A big plus from buying from them instead of E-bay is you get a 1 year warranty.

I have two 522s. I used to have two 501s. I loved both, but the extra space and dual tuners on the 522 make it my preferred choice. If I was going for a 50x, I would probably go with a 510 for the larger disk, even though it costs $5/month more (at least with Dish).

I am looking at cutting costs at home, and I have debated cutting back to SkyAngel only, but we are not going to do that yet.

I recently signed back up with dish network, as opposed to just having sky angel and the fuzzy local channels, because I wanted to look at certain documentaries that you can't see anywhere except on cable or sat. tv. If sky angel added a couple of espns, diy, the history channel, etc., I would drop the rest of dish like a bad habit.
