Hello:
I just ordered the Fortec Dynamic Motorized system (scheduled to arrive today) and am having a local installer come out Thursday..While I plan at this point on staying with the motorized system, I have a Dish 1000 pointed at 110-119-129 already, which is not connected..My thought..Would it be possible to just place the new Fortec 36" dish in the opposite direction of the E* dish and come close to getting most of the major birds using the supplied Universal LNBF? The Dish 1000 is on a metal pole in the front yard.

I am sorry if this sounds like a dumb question..The installer almost didnt want to come out because he thought it might be an all day job..Been trying to get some skew info and whatnot..If he corrrectly aims the dish and connects everthing, I should be able to program the receiver at my end, correct?

To add:I ordered from Sadoun Satellite Systems in Columbus, Ohio Friday Morning, received it Monday afternoon..Prompt Service and very efficient packaging..Very impressed..

You might remove your Dish Network 1000 and reuse the pole, yes.
Assuming it's sturdy enough to hold the motor and large dish.
... which is questionable...
Post a picture and maybe we can give you better advice.

All orbiting satellites are located (from your point of view) to the south.
The Dish 1000 is aimed south and somewhat to the west.
To properly receive the satellites, your FS 36" needs to be aimed to the south.
As the motor turns (sounds like a soap opera  ) the dish swings to the east or to the west.
(that automatically takes care of skew)

Installing a motorized dish IS an all day job, especially the first time.
Sounds like your installer is totally in the dark.
If he does the install and leaves without working with the receiver, you will not be aligned to the arc.
So, no, you cannot just program your receiver after he leaves.

There's a whole lot you haven't said, and I'm making some assumptions, so this can lead to some confusion.
However, you should read and understand both info on programming your receiver AND on how to install and align a motor, if you expect this to all end well.

One bit of encouragement has to do with this pole in the yard.
Maybe you can remove the Dish 1000 and put the FS 36" on it yourself?
Having the dish and motor at chest-level for install and alignment will go a long ways toward a happy outcome! :)

And one last thing. If you have no knowledgeable help, consider putting the dish on your pole withOUT the motor, at first.
Get used to aiming the dish, and working with the receiver.
Then, after you have some confidence and experience (two weeks later), and have learned more about motor installs and tuning, then install the motor.

PS: yes, the equipment you've chosen, is "the right stuff".
So, you're off to a good start.

For what it's worth, here's my current setup..Sorry about the picture..Only one I have currently

I guess I'm an oddball, but, I jumped in with both feet!

After having installed numerous DTV and E* dishes, I figured I had enough experience to install and aim my motorized setup.

I started out with mine installed in a 5 gallon bucket full of concrete. It wasn't level, so I put it in an area of my yard with gravel so I could get it level.

Then, I decided to sink a 2" pole in concrete and move the dish to it's permanent location where it still is.

As soon as I read on the forums that my dish alignment scale was off by 5 degress, I had it aimed and peaked in no time.

I'd say go for it, but, you have been given good suggestions to start without the motor too. That will give you the necessary patience to aim the dish and make sure that everything is working okay. The longer you try to aim your dish, and fail, the more you will think the LNB is bad, or the motor is bad or the receiver is bad.......you get the idea!

Happy satellite hunting!

At this point I am considering going with the stationary dish for now..I have the 36" Dish to put on a steel pole where a Dish Network dish had been..I want to hit the 123 (Galaxy 18)-129 (Echostar 5 Galaxy 27)..Will the 36 Inch dish, aimed properly, hit at least 123-125 or 125-127..I guess What I am asking is, If I aim at one satellite, will I be able to hit the satellites on either side of the main one I want? I know I am such a newbie..lol

Most likely you can set the LNBs close enough to receive two birds 4° apart.
Depends on the dish (particularly its focal length); depends on the LNBs (their diameter), depends on where in the country you are.
I'd say that there is no chance, regardless of your location or LNBs, that you could get two birds at 2° spacing on that 36" dish.
You might go for 123° & 129°, though. ;)

Motorizing In The Future:
Hanging a motor and dish on that pole may cause it to flex.
So, while that is the eventual goal, you would want to consider reinforcing it:
- use larger pole (might be inconvenient)
- put some rebar and cement down the existing pole (might not work)
- mount the motor low on the pole, to minimize flex (will certainly help, but may put dish too low)
But even if you should eventually put a motorized dish on your roof, the chance of getting it aligned without first getting experience on the ground, is ... modest. ;)

Had the installer come today..Connected everything correctly..Including the Motor..All the readings as far as azimuth, etc..appear to be correct..

The receiver is setting on the setup page at 40% signal and 0-1% quality..His analog meter got nothing outside..Where do I go from here?

1. Did he set the initial position of the dish to your true south location?
2. Did he select the proper type of LNB in the receiver?
3. Did he use USALS to move to the nearest FTA sat that has a good signal (see http://www.satelliteguys.us/free-ai...-i-need-strong-transponder-aim-my-dish.html)? and selected or entered the strong signal transponder information, then check the Quality?
4. When using USALS, make sure you have the proper long/lat entered in the receiver.
5. Did he move the dish left/right and up/down (note that some dish elevation marks may be a few degrees off), pausing between moves?

As far as I know, everything was done correctly..Found the true south and aligned the dish correctly..The motor is moving. I did change the diseqc setting to USALS but still cant find anything..Will try to look things over tomorrow..LOL..Would like to find a local (Canton-Akron, Ohio) hobbyist that knows about this stuff to volunteer to come over and check everything out..I'll buy you lunch..

You say he "found" your true south satellite. What were his signal/quality readings on this satellite?

You now have it on the setup screen with 40% which is probably just noise, or you could be real near to a satellite. With 0% quality, you are not actually receiving a good TP. Speaking of TP, verify with Lyngsat or TheList or both that you are trying to tune a live TP on the satellite you have moved to. Many people including ME have tried to aim a dish using an inactive TP which will give you 0% quality.

I hope you didn't have to pay this installer for an incomplete installation. I would never expect a customer to pay if I did not have him a picture before I left, and I'm not even an installer, just a user. If i was near you, I would be there tomorrow and help you. Lunch would be a bonus. I would more like to have sweet tea without lemon! :)

Good luck puttering with it. Your best bet is to take your receiver and a TV out to the dish and putz with it according to Sadoun's aiming instructions. He is a Gold Sponsor and very trustworthy. He has a great video that explains aiming the dish as well.

How to install an HH-Mount Motor? Applies to DG240-SM3D22-STABHH100-HH120-Motech-SG2100

Good luck. Let us know how things come out.

Update:
I picked up a wrench, a pair of pliers and a 50-foot outdoor extension cord. Monday I plan on taking the Fortec Receiver and a TV outside to the dish and see if I can come up with a signal..Wish me luck..
