Dish 4900 receiver help needed

My current 4900 seems to be dying. I will try to purchase one from ebay, but how do I force it to update to the most current software? Can it be done all at one time or will it have to be done at different integrals?

As I suggested before Buy the DHPP service contract from DISH for $5.99 then cancel it after DISH has replaced your 4900.
