I am installing a dish 500 and am getting 119 really strong and 129 weak so my confused and tired brain thinks I am 10 degrees off on the aiming but would like a 2nd opinion before I climb back up the ladder as I am not comfortable with hight.

119 95%
129 25%
110 0

I have set all the numbers on the dish for the zip but am just needing a little nudge in the correct direction.

Correct. You are picking up 119 on the wrong LNBF. Just swing the dish over and you should be fine.

I had a similar problem not too long ago. I could get the 119/129 but not 119/110. No matter how hard I tried. I just ended up rebooting my receiver, doing a check switch, and then started over. Bingo..it worked.

Penguin,

I think you may be aimed to the right (as viewed from the rear). I suggest covering the 110 side of the LNB with some Aluminum foil, then verifying signal strength is 25% at 129.

If so, move the dish to the left (as viewed from the rear), approx 9 degrees. If I remember my geometry correctly, 9 degrees equates to about 1/8" on the mast. Once you peak signal on 119 (adjusting az and elev), remove the foil and the re run the check switch. Viola, all should be in order.

That don't sound quite right.

119 129

Well I finally got 119 at 115% and 129 at 95%. Tried looking for 110 but can not find. I have elevation and azimuth and skew as per the box. so I know I need to move dish to the east a little but can anybody tell me how much to change skew or elevation. I have hard time on ladder so any suggestions are appreciated. Zip is 34613. Also the 510 shows Dish 1000 not Dish 500

just drop your elevation a little bit, i'd say try about 2 or 3 degrees. Then move 10degrees to the left.
And it's showing dish1000 cause you are looking at the 129. Once you get it on 110 and 119, run the check switch... it should say Dish500.

Something else has to be the problem. The dish is designed so that if u get quality signal on 119 and 129 then the 110 falls into place. You dont have to align all three. This sounds like a bent dish or defective lnb for the 110. The 119 and 110 are brought in by the dp Plus twin lnb. Do not move the dish if u have 119 and 129 strong. Remove the dp plus twin and put the single lnb from the 129 in the third or middle position. Check your tv and see if it reads 110 only. if it does the dish is fine but lnb is not. If it does not read 110 then the dish is bent.

So sorry let me also add to check the cabling for the 110...cabling should always be checked first. A line toner can be used for this.

You can't get three satellites from a Dish 500. Only 110 and 119 or 119 and 129.
You need to add a second dish for the third satellite or get a Dish 1000.

If you are picking up 129, the receiver 'thinks' you have a Dish 1000.

Dish500... not 1000

I have had the same problem, find the 119 lnb, put tin foil over the 110. Then change the skew to 90, like a normal dish. Dial in 119, get best signal. Then hook up 110 and uncover the lnb, run check switch and adhjust the skew, you should be real close.

You need to increase your elevation by 3-5 degrees, and nudge the dish a tad to the left, when looking toward the sky.

Some of the early Channel Master made Dish500's were incorrectly marked 3-5 degrees too low.

The mean elevation between 110 and 119 is higher than that between 119 and 129.
