DISH adds 250 jobs to call center in Tulsa

That's because your Virginia accent is probably not too far off from theirs. ;) :p

To be fair, their local news reporters didn't have much of an accent, but the accent was very apparent in the local commercials.

Actually, transfers in the Navy pretty much removed my Nawlins accent. I miss being surrounded by people that call each other "baby" without anyone taking offense, and speaking with the "correct" accent.

And we had great words that I've mostly forgotten. Like "the neutral" is the median strip.

There's a reason why so many announcers come from Ohio. Former announcers for The Price Is Right are from Cleveland, and Clear Channel (now iHeart Radio) used to use WBNS in Columbus to do the liners and voiceovers for many of their nationwide stations using local announcers.

That being said, there ARE famous announcers from Oklahoma, like John Doremus: John Doremus - Wikipedia

"...the 612 bug that requires an upgrade to a 722...."

"Everybody" knows that bug requires an upgrade to a Hopper 3!
:devilish
People who are still using 612's probably can't afford a Hopper 3! :p

News reporters are trained to speak without an accent. For the bored with lots of time, this is interesting:

Is There a Place in America Where People Speak Without Accents?

I didn't bother to read the article that ncted linked, but I seem to remember from Journalism class that the accent that news reporters are trained to use is called a Midwestern Drawl, and Ohio (where I am) is a prime example of that accent.

I’ve had 2 calls routed to Tulsa in the past 2 days and both reps have been outstanding. During the first call last night, I got a guy who used to work at the Hard Rock Casino and we were talking about shows we’ve seen in the area. The second lady I got today was just as friendly. Good training and good people, good call center.

Yes, Tulsa call center was always my favorite for Field Support.

I haven’t been there in 3 years, so it could have changed. When I was there, it was Bluefield, Phoenix, Denver, and the one they just closed in Texas. I think they said Phoenix had the largest for B.B. support.
