Any possibility that Dish might be able to get into the distant nets business? Is there a chance it could happen next month when the new SHEVA (whatever they call it) is updated? It'd be nice if they could get back into it like they used to, as long as they abide by the laws this time. I sure hope so because (if I remember right) their distant nets were a lot cheaper than the ones from AAD.

I thought Dish said they were allowed to import missing channels in DMA's like DIrectv does with this new change coming up.

So in markets that have 1 or 2 channels (like Mankato, MN that only has CBS) they could import the Minneapolis stations in there (like D* does...Mankato folks get NBC, ABC, FOX from Mpls and CBS from Mankato)

Once all markets have locals, distants is not needed :)

Question:

If All American Direct serves Distant networks like extracted from here:

https://www.mydistantnetworks.com/https://www.mydistantnetworks.com/RVrequest.revised.070809.pdf

HD (out of Chicago or Los Angeles)
SD (out of New York or San Francisco)

Regarding HD; I can't find any source that will post what HD channels are in what CONUS beams; from what bird? my guess is 129W for West locals (L.A.)? and 61.5W for eastern (Chicago)? For example I have searched from:

http://www.dishuser.org/129list.php

http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/dish129.html

any ideas?

P.D. do you have an idea why they choosed a CST city like Chicago? and not any other on the east coast? (Strange choice)

Probably because of the law for HD distants that says you can't get an east coast feed of HD distant nets if you live in central, mountain, or pacific time zone. So if your address is in the west coast, you can't even get the Chicago HD channels.

They make it so difficult for people down here in the states. Why can't they just do it like they do in Canada and let you get the nets from one coast to the other (or at least one set from each time zone)!

Oh...that's right. It's has to do with money. "If I get locals from another market, then my local channels will go out of business."

The latest development with STELA (the new acronym) is the Senate draft will allow Dish to offer Distant Nets as it did before. However, other drafts allow Dish to only import from neighboring DMA's but not Distant Nets. The Senate draft also drops the requirement for satellite to provide all LIL's in all DMA's by 2012. Meanwhile a House bill would require all LIL's in all DMA's by 2012 in exchange for Dish being allowed to provide out of market locals. Then there is a House requirement for satellite to provide all HD Public TV LIL's by 2012, which Dish says it cannot do until a new satellite is launched the following year. And satellite is being allowed the same licensing structure in the STELA for programming, pretty much a sure thing now, and a big win for satellite.

In fact, there are several drafts in both the House and Senate that must be reconciled. Right now, it is pretty much anybody's guess as to what the final STELA will require and allow. Both Direc TV and Dish are lobbying very hard on STELA. I believe something MUST be done quickly because SHIVRA expires at the end of this year. However, if they can't get STELA to a vote this year, Congress can vote to extend SHIVRA for one more year, then resume work on STELA for passage in the new year of 2010.

Central and Eastern time zones have the same programming during prime time so that point is moot

Primetime starts at 8 Eastern 7 Central

Try TheList link in my signature. Click on the spotbeam links for maps too. It's near real time data.

You are absolutly correct, the trouble is that the idiot at AAD that read the law thinks that eastern airs before central.

Guys, I'm very curious and I hope someone here has the answer of my previous question:

do you have an idea why they choosed a CST city like Chicago? and not any other on the east coast? (Strange choice) for HD Distant Net......

I understand SD (out of New York or San Francisco) N.Y is EST and S.F. is WST
HD (out of Chicago or Los Angeles) L.A. is WST but Chicago is CST
I know and as posted here previously prime time has same content weird choice if someone's located near EST has to wait an hour......
so 2(1/2) men is at 10 p.m. for him monday nights.....

Thanks in advance.

Shows are on at the same exact time in Chicago as they are on in New York. If a show is on at 8 EST, it is on at 7 CST. Therefore, they are on at the same time. 2 and a Half Men is on at 8 CST, so it is on at 9 EST, not 10.

no
Eastern & Central are always shown at the same time (prime time...8PM EST and 7 CST)..thats why when they show ads for the shows it always says "9PM 8 Central" as example
Mountain in most cases starts at 7:00 local time
Pacific is 8PM local time

so in the Mountain & Central time zones, the "normal" local news is at 10:00 whereas the coasts its at 11:00
