I just added this to the channel chart. Since this affects more than just Lifetime I think it deserves a new thread!

1/4/06
12:30am - DISH NETWORK MAY BE PREPARING FOR ALL-OUT WAR OVER LIFETIME. On Mid-afternoon 1/3/06 (ANON) reported a couple of dozen channel names on the EPG showing up on transponder 16 at 119°. None of the channels are "in the system" but they all show there. On further investigating, it was discovered that all these channels had call letters and channel numbers that relate to every single Hearst-owned TV station Dish carries. The only reason for all these call letters and channel numbers on tp 16 at 119° is to act as a "redirect" channel for the purposes of having a slate telling subscribers why the local channels were removed. At this point NO LOCAL CHANNELS HAVE BEEN REMOVED. This is speculation on my part. But I see no other reason why all the Hearst stations are on this list on tp 16 at 119°. For those that are not aware, Hearst owns the controlling share of Lifetime Networks. Dish has removed Lifetime (or Lifetime pulled the channel from Dish depending on whose side you read) on New Year's eve at the stroke of midnight Pacific over a contranct dispute. The following stations are currently listed on tp 16 at 119° as well as their "regular" locations:
7070 WISN
7267 WXII
7340 WMTW
7495 KHBS
7690 WDSU
8130 WTAE
8182 WYFF
8272 WESH
8352 WLWT
8430 KMBC
8435 KCWE
8632 KCRA
8634 KQCA
8697 WMOR
8732 WBAL
8770 WCVB
8784 WMUR
8794 KSWB
8810 KOAT
8834 WBZL
8860 WPBF
8890 KOCO
8900 KITV

8943 WNNE
9017 WGAL
9096 WLKY

See ya

Is Charlie trying to make his company as unattractive as possible to AT&T? IMO, he's causing far more harm to his own company than Disney/Hearst are suffering.

Also, subscribers are going to be scratching their heads when they go to fairsatellite.com and are told that Lifetime has somehow taken their local channels away.

koat or our local translater koct would be ava off the air analog as the digital is down all the time so no biggie... its our ABC so since no MNF... thats all I watch on ABC...

fergie,

it also depends where you live. WTAE channel 4 is a powerhouse in the pittsburgh area.

As is WGAL here in central PA.
Ain't that the truth. It's the only VHF channel in the Harrisburg/York market.
Fortunately I can get it and it's twin WBAL OTA. Though I do wonder if it would havoc with my 811 guide.

For what it's worth, I thought I would toss this into the discussion. (Please forgive if it is mentioned elsewhere).

The following link basically states that Hearst-Argyle is charging 50 cents a month, per subscriber, for 2006; 55 cents in 2007; and 60 cents in 2008 to distributors who do not wish to carry LMN & LRW.

Though these rates appear to be in line with what other operators are said to charge for recarriage rights, Ergen hits me as the kind of person that WILL NOT allow this to be used as leverage in the Lifetime agreement.
