DISH is airing inappropriate ads on TV Land

Wow, I'm glad someone brought this up, because I didn't know it was Dish's fault. F@*#%! That's not cool!

My mom and I are huge fans of Leave it to Beaver, and I don't watch it live anymore - it and the brady bunch are riddled with ads for girls gone wild, extenze, and tons of life insurance commercials :\

Um.. the FCC doesn't have jack to do about cable broadcast networks. the Ratings systems are not federally mandated, it's a voluntary thing.
Commission Finds Industry Video Programming Rating System Acceptable; Adopts Technical Requirements to Enable Blocking of Video Programming (the "V-Chip")

The issue here is that episodes for shows can be recorded at any point in time. Such advertising is not appropriate for the target audience of the channel. Though I suggest you watch some network television late at night. You'll see the same commercials.

If you have an issue with it, you should bring it up with the network. If it's dish doing it, it's up to the network to talk to dish, not yours. As far as you can tell, it's TV Land promoting that type of commercial, and it's up to them to put a stop to it.

As a matter of fact, I do not have kids.
Then please be sure to shut up as your sticking your foot pretty far into your mouth Dr. Laura. The Brady Bunch is a show considered to be suitable for all ages but as you pointed out you never watched tv as a kid so you wouldnt really know that. I'll be the first to say that parents should spend more time with their kids than they do but what every armchair parent such as yourself doesnt seem to comprehend is that parents have things that they have to do that cant always be done when the kids are in bed and there isnt always someone that can watch them for you so you have to do the best you can and if that means having your kids watch recordings of The Brady Bunch or Leave it to Beaver or any of the other shows wich we all know as we grew up with them then thats what we have to do.

You are being purposefully obtuse.

The days of adult and family broadcast times are fading fast in the rear-view mirror and being quickly replaced by adult, mature, adolescent and family themed channels and programs and v-chip ratings controls.

Do you believe that if a v-chip was set to only let family rated shows be viewed it would either (a.) block "The Brady Bunch" or (b.) allow the show but block Girls Gone Wild commercial breaks?

I think neither are likely.

Most movie theater chains make it a policy of not running R rated previews before G rated features. It's just common sense.

No, but they are ads for pornographic videos

As I said before, this isn't rocket science though it does require a little bit of common sense which someone in the chain from The Brady Bunch syndicator to the Dish uplink center is apparently lacking.

GGW are NOT pornographic. R Rated, yes. pornographic, no. As far as most censors go, Playboy magazine type content is not pornographic, Hustler is.

They don't show anything that can't be seen on a beach in St. Tropez.

Once again, teach them to use the commercial skip button. If you have zero tolerance for ANY risque ads, then it is time to start buying those TV seasons on DVD.....

I don't mean to rile you up any further, but I just think you need to take some responsibility yourself. If the ads between 11am -5am are too much for you.... then record the shows OUTSIDE of those hours.

I found a similar case myself last night. I had recorded a couple shows of Gametrailers on Spike TV for myself and my son who like playing various video games (We go for Burnout and Halo 3 more than Grand Theft Auto if you're wondering). They aired at midnight though, and lots of scantily clad females were flashed on the screen in between the show breaks, appealing to the 20 something male demographic that would normally be watching at that hour. I deleted the shows, and will reset the timers for an earlier time in the day, when it is cleaner during the show breaks.

Oh my God...

Finally, a voice of reason. :up

Check for yourself what time Brady Bunch or Leave It To Beaver is on......

Then it may be time to spring for the $30 for each of the box sets if there is no other time available and you HAVE to hear Peter's voice crack again.....

I agree with this 100%.

Dude,

You have no idea how un-riled I am.

I Only responded because I saw a lack of depth in the knee jerk philosophy espoused by those trying to defend the bone-headed management decision to put wild tittie video ads on during the Brady Bunch.

If you think about it, the idea of late night racy TV comes from a segment of society that needs to hide its sexuality in the dark of night.

In a Tivo world, broadcast time is irrelevent.

There's a lot to be said for bouncing mammaries(if that's what does it for you) in the during the light of day.

For me, the night is for the fruit of Kentucky's finer rick houses. Or if you're a short hitter, "The night belongs to Michelob".

Cheers

P.S. Would you advertise Poligrip in the X Games?

...it isn't rocket science.

I take exception to this statement. While GGW has it's share of "R-rated" fare, a lot of the newer videos and the non-PPV "uncensored" videos have plenty of material that would be considered a lot racier than what Playboy shows, and border on hardcore pornography.

Of course, what they show and do not show on the actual videos, is not the point here.

I have a daughter and while we always are with her when she's watching TV, I think the OP should have a reasonable expectation as to what commercials are being shown during shows rated for younger audiences. Unfortunately, right now, the government's take on rating Television extends only to the show itself, not the commercials.

If E* is inserting these commercials during these shows it only shows a poor business maneuver, but they are not required, under current laws, to make the commercials match the shows.

This isnt St. Tropez or the beachs of Monaco, its a tv station that makes a point in portraying itsself as a child and family oriented content provider, why this is so frustrating hard for you and other people in this thread that are coming to the defence of whomever it is thats putting these adds up is beyond me.

If theres so little concern about this from those defending this practice do any of you let your children look at playboy and hustler? Do you take your kids to nude beachs and would you aprove your childrens teachers to dress revealing an exceptional amount of breast or give a crotch shot when sitting down?

you underestimate them - they know exactly what they're doing.

As a matter of fact, I do not have kids. But if I did I wouldn't use the TV (or the internet) as a babysitter. My parents never did that with me, and I would never do that with my kids if I ever had any. I wouldn't record a non-children's show on a non-children's channel in the middle of the night and then hand it over to them to watch without either having watched it first myself or being with them while they watched it.

There are PLENTY of things your kids could do rather than being parked in front of the TV alone while you're off doing household chores, paying bills, etc. Whatever happened to playing with toys and games? Reading a book? Coloring, drawing, or some other type of artwork? Or heaven forbid...GOING OUTSIDE TO PLAY (which would be the best thing seeing as how there's a major obesity problem in this country, and most kids don't get anywhere close to the amount of exercise they should be getting). Kids are too damn lazy these days, and I think a major reason for it is parents who park them in front of the TV alone and use the TV as a babysitter.
for someone who doesn't have any kids you imply having a lot of knowledge about them and how the people that do have them should be raising them.

I wonder if the Enzite commercials (about Bob's growing problem) that were running on Nickelodeon were really being inserted by Dish? My mother-in-law had her grandson over and freaked out that they would run a commercial like that. At the time she had Dish.

....you imply having a lot of knowledge about them and how the people that do have them should be raising them.
Isn't that usually the case ? It's easy to "think" how you'd raise your kids and what you'd do, what you'll allow them to do and so on.
