I am thinking about switching to Dish. One negative is that 3 out of 4 local channels will be in SD. Why are they in SD when they are broadcast OTA in HD? Also, since my tv's will do some amount of upconversion I don't know what to expect in terms of picture quality being shown (compared to HD). Does anyone else get their locals n SD and if so, how good is your picture compared to HD?

Of the six DMA's in Indiana, only Lafayette doesn't have all the stations in HD. They get the Indianapolis stations in SD.

So all programs are received in HD even if broadcast in SD?

Well, they are output as pseudo-HD anyway. It's like those older dvd players that upconvert to 1080i. Even so, not all "sd" channels look as good as "hd" channels. But sometimes all the channels whether hd OR sd can look better or worse for various reasons.

What is your zip code. Can figure out exactly what DMA you are in onl the dish site using that, then the list for HD/SD. Advantage, you can get the OTA module and have OTA HD(if avail) and whatever Dish offers.
