Hey guys I'm from New York and I'm new to the forum. I desperately need some help. My family and I will be moving to Guyana, South America for about 9 months and I did some research and found out there isn't any proper Satellite TV provider there, so I definitely need to receive my television while I'm there..somehow. I was thinking of taking my Dish Network receivers that I have now, continue to pay my monthly subscription and some how setup a large enough dish that I can receive my channels. Can someone please advise me on how I can do this and what size dish I need in order to receive the signal. Its 9 months and I can't see myself living without my TV.

Thank you in advance for your time and co-operation!

Hello, The task is expensive and might be even difficult, due to the fact I don't know any technitian in the area. I have learned that there are techguys in Suriname and that they have better readings from 110W than from 119W
Dishes used begin with 8 ft. off set fed and up; prices are well over $2,000 plus shipping and handling....and you need to find someone to set it up for you.

Your cheappest solution is to set up an account with DirecTV Latin America, there they have some US channels and the signal will work with an 18" dish. you might find a dealer in Guyana. Mainly the contracts are set up in the island of Trinidad & Tobago.

For more info go to:

Digital Satellite Television | DIRECTV Caribbean

Good Luck!!!!

Hey..thanks for the reply. I spoke to some people there in Guyana and I'll be able to get a 10ft. off-set dish relatively cheap; the problem is setting it up. I'm not sure if there is some special type of LNB that I have to use. Can you please advise.

Thanks!

Hello, I will advice you to go for the option of DirecTV Latino.....why?

You need to know the quality of the dish they are offering to you, if it's a copy it will not perform as good as the original.

I know first hand that 10 ft. will not be enough (for 119W), you might get some transponders but not all...in the ones you're missing might be the channels you like the most...

you will have to pay full programming but will only be able to get 40% due to transponder level limitation.

there are more factors but I guess these might help you a bit to decide on spending big bucks on a project you don't know will work well....

DirecTV Latino in the other hand has the satellite aimed to the caribbean...easy set up and it works...

If you would be moving to Aruba or other Island things are different but Guyana is extreme conditions....

Good Luck!!!

Hey, I'll take your advice and settle for DirecTV Latino. I just got off the phone with my guy down in Guyana and he says there is a service provider for DirecTV there but their service sucks. I'm thinking of purchasing my card from Trinidad (from the website you sent me earlier )and simply hooking it up in Guyana. I'll pay my bill online or whatever means necessary. Can that work? I'll ship a direcTV dish from here and purchase the receiver and smart card in Trinidad. Please tell me this can work and the size of dish I would need.

Thank you!

Or you could have all your favorite channels including your local hometown ones by Slinging from a home based box.

provided you have high speed internet access where your going. Yoiu might be able to snag a slingcatcher, although its not high def
