DISH NETWORK INTRODUCES ONLY ONLINE VIDEO PORTAL WITH LIVE TV INTEGRATION

DISHOnline.com also includes access to thousands of popular movies and TV shows

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 24, 2010 – DISH Network today introduces DISHOnline.com, the only online video portal that integrates live and recorded TV with more than 150,000 popular movies, TV shows, clips and trailers into one easy-to-use interface.

Through DISHOnline.com, customers can watch their live TV, all of their DVR recordings, and instantly view thousands of movies, TV shows, clips and more from programmers such as Food Network, Discovery Channel, MTV, EPIX, Starz and Encore – all free with their paid subscription. Through a robust search engine, customers can browse for content by title, network, actor or genre.

For example, if a customer likes the TV show 30 Rock, he or she can search that title and pull up a range of instantly available video content related to the show, including episodes currently playing that can be watched live, past episodes, and special features and clips from the Web. DISHOnline.com will also list episodes recorded to the DVR, as well as upcoming episodes that customers can record with the click of a mouse. In addition, the search for 30 Rock will list actors on the show like Alec Baldwin. When the user clicks on his name, DISHOnline.com will display a page featuring all video content featuring Alec Baldwin, plus the ability to rent Alec Baldwin movies, such as It’s Complicated.

“DISHOnline.com integrates DISH Network’s expansive TV programming lineup with the vast amount of online video content, adding another dimension to our ‘pay once, take your TV everywhere’ product platform,” said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. “DISH Network is committed to offering an unrivaled experience that satisfies our customers’ need to consume video in a variety of new and exciting ways.”

DISHOnline.com is also open to non-DISH Network customers, who have access to thousands of free video selections available for instant streaming. Those with a DISH Network subscription can enjoy the enhanced features of DISHOnline.com by logging in with their existing DISH Network online account information. Live and recorded TV viewing is enabled for customers with a ViP 922 SlingLoaded DVR or the upcoming Sling Adapter.

So, instead of needing an additional receiver, we can use an existing desktop, get a video card with an HDMI plug, hook the desktop via ethernet cable to the network, a wireless keyboard and mouse, and this can just about replace a receiver... no additional leasing or commitment?

that's what I call thinking around a corner. but don't forget the Sling adapter. (or 922) wonder if this would work for the folks 'down south'

I just logged in to check it out, and it told me that I needed to upgrade my programming to be able to view the channels in the attached image.

Odd, since I already subscribe to AT250 with HD Platinum, and I get ALL of those channels.

I just login and the quality is not the best.

However its a pretty darn cool new feature.

You can click on the channels anyways and it will work. It is a bit confusing that they show which channels need a higher package without saying you already have the package.

I also have AT250, but when I login it says "Unlocked Watch As Part Of Your DISH Subscription You are currently subscribed to the following premium networks" and under that there's a section for channels that are locked which is just Starz and Sundance. I went into a few of the networks that are unlocked, and there's lots of content... Even Encore and EPIX have some great movies. I just played the new Star Trek movie, and it looks really good.

Will all this be accessible from the DVR once the new menus are rolled out? I have a 722 (not K), so maybe soon I'll get it if so :)

Also I've heard a few places that some channels would be live streams. Is this true? Most of the content I've seen are clips or full episodes, but not live being what you'd see if you were watching the channel now.

It sounds like if you have the Internet speed for it, this is really way to spread the Dish throughout the house! Though I don't know how many connections could be held wirelessly at the same time. Wonder the bandwidth requirement.

So not HD then? Is it 480i/p quality?

I was most interested in being able to stream live or recorded content from my 722k. Looks like I need to upgrade to the 922. I clicked on the website links to find out pricing, and even though I was logged into my Dish Network account it started leading me through the steps of selecting a programming package... With the new 722k menus that appeared the other day, I was hoping that live streaming would be built into the current equipment.

Anyone know how much it would cost to switch from a 722k to 922?

I subscribe to some of the channels, Epix for instance, yet it tells me I have to upgrade. If I click on it, all the shows have upgrade in the corner. The
"Free for all" works.

I'm not sure what this all means. I have a 722 and do not have a 922. Will any of this work for me?

If I already had the 922, how would this news be new? I thought the 922 could already do all of those things mentioned in the news release.

What am I missing here?

Does the "View DVR" functionality work for anyone??

Mine lists two 622's. One that's offline and one that's online.

I actually have a 622 and a 722. The 722 is online.

If I choose the "622" that is "online", it shows all of my 722 programming, so I'd assume my 722 is mislabeled as a 622. Either way, none of this works for me because I don't have any "Sling" items. I'm going to assume that this news release is pointless to me or anyone that doesn't have a 922. :what

Mine lists my 722 which is online. When I click on it, it gives me info on how to connect even though I'm already connected.

I thought "View DVR" would allow me to manage my recordings, just like DISH Remote Access...

Yeah, this is getting pretty complicated pretty quickly. dishonline.com and DISH Remote Access are two different, but similar things I guess. I don't know why they can't just have one thing that works like it should.

Also, there should be some kind of a reference table that shows what each receiver is actually capable of. With the 923 coming up and new harware next year for 3D, things are going to get tricky.

Why in the world would I upgrade to a 922 now (get locked in to a 2 year agreement) and then have newer hardware next year for 3D that I won't be able to get until my 2-year contract expires?

Maybe I should wait for a Sling Enabled, 3D enabled, Dishonline.com enabled, Dish Remote Access enabled, external hard drive enabled DVR.

This makes my head hurt.
