DISH Renovates Website

If you go to the local channels qualification page, the Dish News banner at the bottom states:
As of February 2009, the U.S. will begin broadcasting strictly in HD, replacing analog television broadcasts. Learn more>

The "learn more" link goes right back to the same page.

Wow, that's Comcastic!

(The one thing they have done right is to make the address lookup sort out which parts of a DMA aren't covered by a spotbeam, at least in the case of the pathetic Scranton HD one. It didn't do that before.)

Still get the same message when I try to modify my programming - "We cannot process your request to change your programming package. Please call 1-888-884-2741 to make these programming changes to your account."

It turns out the Dish can produce a web site that is even less usable than their last one. For example, that log on windowlet that hides all the menus that pop-up... err pop-under it - DUH. Oh and I really, really need yet more bandwidth consuming Flash annimation of stretching dollars  Here's a hint dish... If your Flash aninmaiton is so big that I see a Flash animation "progress bar" I don't wait for it to finish loading -- I move on to another site.

OBTW Dish packages "services" with WildBlue a satellite internet provider which has strict limits on monthly usage (AKA FAP). So lets be sure to use as much of that monthly FAP limit as possible just to see Dish's new home page. After all our customers with WildBlue can always go to the next tier / cost bracket and our stuff is worth it :(

They would really bring in more income if they had adult HD. I am shocked that it was not one of the first things that they added.

My neighbor got that. He had an invalid combination of selections. A warning message would have been more useful. Try changing one thing at a time (if it doesn't increase your cost).

I agree that Dish should know better, but to 90% of the population, the basic point still gets across just fine. To too many people, "HD" and "digital" are one in the same...

This is just not being loose with the language. It is consumer fraud (Mabel, there ain't no hi defynshun shows on KORN-TV!). I noticed that even the veterans here perpetuate this misleading usage. They ought to be ashamed. I guess Dish likes the trips to court. Call it something different, like maybeHD or HDSometimes. Some retailers got their hands slapped for this very issue with the hardware, why should programming be any different?

If you bought a pack of Titleist ProV1 Golf Balls for $55.00 only to find out that only 1/3 were the real thing and 2/3 were driving range practice balls you might be a bit upset. The British would say this is a violation of the Trades Description Act.

Dish Network will have to change that description to digital eventually as someone will see that and say that they were misled.
