Hello.

I use a wireless router that connects to my cable modem.
Form that router I have a single ethernet cable running to the lower level of my house and connects to a network switch.

I have my xbox360, Bluray(live) player, and dish receiver conncted to it.

The xbox and bluray player connects fine to the internet and home network BUT.....

The dish receiver is sorta connecting.
I reset it in the broadband setup and reboot everythng (my receiver and modem and router)
The dish receiver says that i have an online connection, but when I look for online content it says that it is populating list and thats it.
On the left and botttom of the screen it does show new content of movie titles (just the icons), and if I click on that it does the same thing I mentioned above.
Any ideas.
THanks...Joe

First thing, I'd swap out the ethernet cable that connects your Dish box to your switch, and also try a different port on your switch. There's a reason that home switches are $5 per port, and enterprise switches are $100 per port.

Does your wireless router assign an IP address to your devices (NAT), or does it pass thru a public address from the cable modem? If it passes a public address from the cable modem, your internet provider may limit the number of addresses that they will give you.

You can check that by noting the IP address on your Dish receiver - if it's 10... or 192.168.., then it's probably an address from your router (although some internet providers will give you a 10 or 192.168 address).

And, of course, your ethernet port on your Dish receiver may be bad. Try plugging the router---switch cable directly into your Dish receiver.

dishonline same issue

I have the same issue. My setup is an apple airport set up in bridge mode, hard wired to my router. Fios is my internet service. Conected to the apple is a PS3, Hava TV and my reciever, a VIP722. The PS3 and Have all work flawlessly and connect to the internet and home network.

The 722 shows it is connected and has an IP address. Dish support also shows it is working and has an address. I, too cannot get any title info or attempt to download anything on dishonline. The purchases through the the guide work since they involve a phone line.

I've tried all levels of Dish support and even have new receiver authorized. At present, no fixes worked as suggested by dish. My other devices work and I can download programs and movie ,for example, through my PS3, I show no blocked ports or any othe issues with the firewall. I am willing to try a new receiver but don't think that's the issue.

I did upgrade the firmware on the apple recently. But agarin, my othe devices work.

Any ideas???

thanks....
it seems like you are educated in this area.....
i will try the steps you mentioned...think it may be the limit on the ip addresses.. i never thought of that...i will try this over the weekend...
I have limited knowledge in this area...thanks for giving me direction.

hey bradleys...
my ip is a 168
and my cable is good.
i also changed ports etc.
but when i connect directly from router to receiver (without switch/hub)
I get the same results.
I am thinking it is the receiver.
I am waiting for those new sling receivers 922 to hit the market and I guess i will worry about it then.
thanks guys.

Clish1, hope you have better luck as well.

Joe

I'm currently on the phone with Dish support for the same issue. The guy thinks its on their end, but that they just haven't been able to determine the cause as of yet to offer a fix. I can view my DVR through the sling beta, etc., so we know it's not a port, cable or router problem. He believes it will end up being a software/hardware combo that they need to attack. If anyone gets this to work, please share your results!!

Okay - I fixed mine!

It WAS my router, and I set up a NAT port forwarding for port 5001. Now it shows up IMMEDIATELY! Awesome. I was worried I'd have to completely reconfigure. I'm so excited!! :D

Okay, this is a problem with the receivers. I have the same problem. I have called several times and gotten nowhere with support. They sent out a technician which was a complete waste of both his and my time.

Another symptom I have, in addition to the same ones everyone else has, is that I keep getting billed $5.00 for not having it connected to a phone line or a broadband connection (it is actually connected to both). Each time I call, the tech tells me that the unit was unable to automatically call in and I need to manually have it call in. When I go to the menu to do that, I always get a message that there are no calls pending. The tech gives me credit and the next month the same thing happens. I wonder if this is a 'feature' of a new software version.

I have a Linksys router running Tomato firmware. I enabled QOS and it started to work. I didn't use Dish Online for several weeks and when I tried it again, it failed again.

I have removed port forwarding of 5001 from the IP address of my Slingbox to the 722. I haven't restarted the 722, yet, but it still isn't pulling information from the internet.

I'm not quite sure what's going on.

Hi Modwild...

If at all possible, how do you set up NAT port forwarding for port 5001?
I have a Linksys router.
Just curious if it is at all possible to explain.
This is a learning process for me...I do appreciate it greatly...
Thanks Joe

I am having the EXACT same issue and am going through all the Dish chains right now. A guy is emailing back and forth with me, and I just sent him this thread to let him know other people are dealing with the same thing. He has walked me through a ton of stuff, but nothing that he has suggested has fixed it. I even contacted my ISP, but they said it has to be a E* issue since everything looks ok.

I have tried reconfiguring my router a ton, but nothing has worked. Can the guy on here that says he got it working describe in detail the steps you went through?

The funky thing for me is that everything worked fine up until the Viacom HD channels were added. I had downloaded the Beast in 1080p several times, and it all worked perfectly. Once those channels came on, I couldn't do it. Don't know if that is the reason, but that is when it changed.

Hmmm.

My 622 shows mass quantities of online content.

Looks like this may be a 722-specific problem.

I didn't do anything to my router to make my 622 work.

Specifically, I didn't set up any port forwarding or inward pinhole on my firewall.

When I look at my 622's ethernet connection I notice that the 622 is pretty chatty.

While I haven't put a sniffer on the switch, it looks to me like the 622 is actively polling and communicating with something at E*.

FWIW

That can't be the case because my issue is with my 622, and before I thought maybe it was limited to the 622, but looks like it at least affects both the 622 and 722.

The E* CSR helping me out asked me to send him a bunch of info about my router, which is an Apple Airport. I will let you know what info he gets back to me.

OK, fair enough.

The only model number mentioned in posts was "722", so I figured you all had 722's.

If anybody needs something checked in my working setup, like software levels or the like, let me know.

No problem man, just wanted you to know it seems to be both.

I would love to have your configuration, just to match it up with mine and see if there are any differences. Thanks!

Your722 has to be connected to the internet to access dishonline. Then click menu, dishonline and try and access any choices on that screen. I f you can't, then you have the problem

Hey guys, the Dish CSR peeps got mine fixed! Here is what he said the engineers had to do. Call up Dish and refer to this and tell them to do the same!

"And I just got a preliminary reply back. One of them says one of their filters thinks your IP address is out of the country, and that’s why it won’t talk to you. Must be something Hollywood and the content providers wanted, having the geographic filters in. They do something similar with the DVD’s with all the Region 1, Region 2, etc codes. It is a preliminary reply though. Let’s see what else they come up with.

They downloaded a fresh database of locations. They said you should work ok now."

What ever dish did , it works.
I wish I didn't spend 10 days on this.
Dish was telling me it was on my end.

I wish there was a way to back charge them for my time!!!!!
