Here is the response from Dish after DirecTV's new Free HD promo that claims to be so much better than Dish's. Come on DirecTV, give it a rest. Start doing your own thing and stop taking shots at Dish.

I think they mean the billing will be simple because existing customers will not have to do anything of they are already getting HD. The change occurs automatically on the bill.

Hmmm I don't agree with dishes claim for simplified billing. There billing is still confusing.

umm according the PDF file, they were talking about the first bill. It used to be the first bill you got was for two months of service, and it freaked a lot of people who either didn't listen when it was explained to them or didn't understand it. (we have seen plenty of threads here about people's first bills). Now a new customer pays their first bill at signup so that the first bill that comes in the mail will be what they pay each month.
Sounds more simple to me...

Well I don't agree with this as it is extremely misleading:

With DISH Network’s industry leading and innovative dual–tuner technology, customers can receive and watch independent programming on two TVs without paying extra fees. With DISH, customers can take advantage of our dual-tuner technology, making it less expensive to provide TV-service to more rooms, since one dual-tuner receiver can be used for every two rooms!
As of Feb 1, this only applies to your first duo receiver. Thereafter, it costs beaucoup bucks. As their comparison shows, an additional duo receiver costs $14, whereas two more DirecTV receivers only costs $10. Not only is it not zero, it's more than the other guy!

The majority of houses will be on either a 4 room setup or fewer rooms.

2 room system: Dish $0 a/o fee, Directv $5....winner: DISH
3 room system: Dish $7 a/o fee, Directv $10....winner: DISH
4 room system: Dish $14 a/o fee, Directv $15...winner: DISH
5 room system: Dish $21 a/o fee, Directv $20....winner: Directv
6 room system: Dish $28 a/o fee, Directv $25....winner: Directv

So, up to 4 rooms DISH is the win.

um folks are reporting in the D* area that they are getting free HD with auto pay. Some cases they cant because of the amount of credits they have already gotten :)

That is a very well-thought out and fair comparison. It doesn't present every scenario, but with the given scenario, it does show Dish is cheaper.

For me though, it is not about costs because I have 6 DVR's (3 of them HD), so I am paying quite a bit of money right now anyway. I have Dish because I of the DVR's, superstations, and now I have locals that DirecTV doesn't have.

I like how this is to inform people of the "misleading" offer from D* and E* wants to set the record straight....yet right below it...200 National HD channels.

Some HD's the Direct has in their package used are not in DIsh's top 200 (Versus) and only in the Top 250. Therefore the comparison is BOGUS for me.

Yep. Just got free HD with a simple call to Direct asking them for free HD. ;)

I already had autopay, so it only took a few seconds (after getting through the hundred different recordings).

DirecTV's response to Dish's free HD for life

One of the differences is that Direct does not require paperless billing, while Dish does.

Also, Dish does not require autopay or paperless billing if you pay the $99.

no not really.

Directv is just giving us a thank you gift :) And pretty soon when they start adding HD channels to D12 (since they're almost done fixing D10 spotbeams) it will make it so much better :)
