Unless Disney was the one to cede to Dish's demands, Dish was bluffing when they said "we don't need your programming". Granted, both sides gave up some of what they wanted. The problem is (and I don't understand why people don't understand this) PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO PAY THE HIGHER COST. If prices were lower, the parks would be even MORE crowded (because more could afford it). Touche'!No, they lost 10(?- if that much) million POTENTIAL viewers. Just because people subscribe to it, doesn't mean they watch. Did they have fewer viewers because of this blackout? I'm sure. Was it a significant amount to really affect the ratings? Possibly, but I'm not convinced.

Actually, I paid full price for my Dish service when I had Dish service. I left Dish over 2 years ago for 100% streaming for a fraction of the price with 10 times the service and viewing pleasure. I personally don't know why anyone with great internet would continue to pay over $100 a month to watch 7 channels of Pay TV and those that live in areas without great internet need to be introduced to Starlink.typical answer when someone has a different opinion
you probably don't pay for your dish service so it makes no difference to you
but for those of us that have been through this crap for years all in the name of "keeping prices low" are worn out with it
paying the same monthly fee for lesser channels is not good business for the customer. For me, the loss of these channels
represents a loss of approximately 10% of the service that I pay for. Is Dish going to reduce my bill by 10%. No they will not
They may offer a few dollars for a month or 2 or offer the dreamscapes or what ever they are called, but nothing that amounts to anything
alternately, those that live in rural areas and do not have access to cable or fast internet have no options other than Dish or Direct
just like the hopper+ advertised as the next great creation by Dish, yet those that have made the jump would hardly agree

Given its track record, I'd be stunned if any sports bars had Dish instead of DirecTV.Were commercial accounts blacked out as well? I stay in a lot of hotels where DISH is the "head end". Several bars/restaurants I have been to have DISH as well... One would think contracts are in place to guarantee channel availability for commercial accounts. A sports bar without ESPN would be very bad for business...

Gut feeling? I know there are "overnight ratings", but those are only certain markets and I don't know if those work for satellite also, but I think Dish probably felt more of an immediate impact than Disney. People who wanted to watch the games found a way (going to a friend's house, a bar, getting streaming credentials, etc). Dish however (based on posts here) was inundated with calls. Because Dish provides the ability to pay less than $100, and get a good number of channels... and not pay for locals. The people that have these high bills have a lot of equipment, and if they really need that, then streaming makes more sense, but for people that manage with a single box, Dish can be better than streaming. Ummmmm, that really only applies if you’re somebody that wants that kind of a set up. To me, the way I do it is the easiest. I don’t pay for locals, I get them OTA. And I have an EHD so I can record, although I never do. And that’s what works for me. The issue with this one is it was such a surprise, and it happened on a saturday during college football season, which is one thing that many that still pay for live tv want to see, well, live. They had little time or recourse to find alternatives for those games if they werent already set up with or familiar with streaming services.The fact is, this shutdown was barely a minute old before some people were crying about how the sky was falling, and for someone who has been through this "for years" should know that in almost every case, the disputes are typically resolved rather quickly and might just want to take a pause and see what happens before they start ringing the alarm bells
Sure ruined my Saturday too. I jumped thru my a-- all day figuring out what app to get so I could watch the F-1 race Sunday morning. Had it happened on say a wednesday, I doubt the outcry would have been as severe, and some that did swap, would have waited until the weekend or close to it before pulling the plug.
