Do any receivers have silence detection and fill from USB?

This is more of a professional broadcasting feature, but I figured if anyone would know the answer it would be you guys.

I'm looking for a receiver preferably with balanced XLR outputs and silence sensing with an option to replace missing audio with files on a flash drive plugged into a USB port.

The purpose of this feature is to deal with rain fade for a receiver that is feeding a broadcast transmitter. There are external hardware methods of dealing with silence, but it sure would be nice to have it all in one box.

Certainly I know some boxes have USB drives, so it would probably really only be a matter of programming.

Rackmount Commercial Receivers

If there aren't such receivers, what other rackmountable receivers with balanced audio outputs are on the market?

It's pretty difficult to find anything besides the DSR-R100 from GeoSatPro (one of which I own).

I don't see a silence sensor / audio replace feature on the 4800, limited info available about the other model.

Were you just posting those as a response to my question about rackmounts?

Thanks!

probably about the rackmount. but in any case wouldnt it be better to have the proper dish setup to avoid rain fade, like a bigger enough dish?. No idea how much rain in New Hampshire falls on average and how often but in any case I think service can be guarantee on Ku above 99% of the time with a 12 ft dish.

Most members here are using hobbyist receivers, which are not designed for professional use. When we do use broadcast-grade products, they are almost always sourced from E-Bay or some other used equipment market. However, Motorola manufactures newer versions of the DSR-4800 that might have the features you are looking for. Check out some of these receivers. Tandberg, Blonder-Tongue, and Scientific Atlanta also make good commercial receivers. Your engineer will probably have a favorite manufacturer, but the cost of these receivers brand new is usually in the multiple thousands of dollars.

Consider using a video detection switch like the VDTR1? Automatically switches to a 2nd source if primary is lost.

I don't recall any professional receivers that automatically switch a device, only send an alarm.

I'm looking specifically for audio silence sensing. I didn't really expect I'd find it. I'm using Ku-band for audio delivery and rain fade could be an issue, so I'm looking for the simplest workaround.

There are really neat IP audio receivers (Barix Extreamer) that have the ability to playback .MP3s from a flash drive connected by USB in the event that a stream fails, thereby eliminating the chance for dead air. Was just curious if anything like that exists in the FTA world.

Thanks for the info!
