I know when its hot and humid the OTA signals sometimes give you better results (aka skip season) but can that also help FTA signals?

Here is why I ask...I had the big dish out the other day scanning sats to update "thelist" and since I have a 6 footer some of the weaker signals I have issues getting.

But the other day I had some "abnormalities"
-KCWY on 99W scanned in at a 65 quality..IF (key word is IF) I scan it in, the signal is at a 30 quality if that.
-I logged Daystar on 101W while aimed at 99W. I have NEVER been able to log Daystar on 99 or 101 (whatever sat its on)
-AMG on 97W I got which is a miracle in itself considering WHT next door at 99W blows it out of the water. Not only was it there it was stable
-A few channels on 87W were higher signals

I dont think it was anything I did as I've done this setup for long enough to know the limits of the 6 footer. I know I get better stability in the winter because its cold but havent seen this when warm and humid

Good Question Ice hope you get some good answers.Heres a quick Question for you!Since you do the list updating with your 6 footer!Should i be able to get everything on that list (within range) on my 6 footer.

correct. Thelist on the C-Band side I update except for 116.8W which being too far north and that satellite having issues I have some problems. But pretty much everything else on there I can get with the 6 footer here in Minnesota

Today I hooked up to the Visionsat in the wife's cave to update 97W and was able to get River Broadcasting and that whole TP which I don't get in the living room on the Merc II. It is though closer to the dish and has all the newer RG6 cable ran to it. The run to the LR is an older premade cable. But your question about the heat kind of makes me wonder if that might have something to do with it too.

Ice,

Must be something to the heat propagation theory. I pointed my 8ft at no place in particular to the East, did a blind scan, locked in Metro TV 37 deg W. from Ghana, Africa! Lyngsat lists the 3805 TP as service to Africa and Europe. Didn't expect to see this in Northern Michigan.

actually Metro TV can be had here in the states...but too low for me on the 6 footer ;)

I don't have an answer for you, T, I think its funny as hell that you think its hot and HUMID in MINNESOTA......:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Take a trip, my Friend, I'll let you experience hot and humid...:)

I know the colder the temp is the better a system will perform. It has to do with the earths temp in Kelvin and noise factor. Less noise and lower K temp will allow better signal. In the old days 20 below zero was the greatest time for reception, your LNB loved it.

Why your doing better in hot weather is a mystery to me.

This past week it has been hot and humid with some really bad storms. When I was doing the testing it was 93 with dewpoint of 78 or so....about an hour before the storms came through ;)

My money (not much:) is on the weather somehow lowering your noise floor thus making the weaker signals stronger - relatively.

Just made the mistake of going out on my front porch with a projection lens (the A/C is on inside). Fogged up and condensed in a split second, and I was afraid the water would get into the lens  ...
