Is there anything that would restrict someone using a DVD Recorder with the current Voom Box?

It's possible right?

Couldn't you record HD thru the DVI using a caputure card?

See this link http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/hdtv-cards.html.

This card does MPEG-2. The MPEG-2 could be converted to MPEG-4, wmv9 etc.... using flaskmpeg to save space for DVD burning. An xbox running linux could output it to your HDTV.

There are also other capture cards out there.

Also I read on a site that most broadcasters are not using HDCP yet.

FYI it is not illegal to run linux on your x-box, just follow the rules and the law.

See this link http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/docs/gettingstarted.html, http://www.xbox-scene.com/

PS I have not done this, it's just a theory right now. This capture card is too pricey for me.

I have a Phillips DVD recorder and it is connected to my VOOM stb via componet cables and works as well.

I have a Philips DVD-R80 with component in cables. I purchased this model because I read that the component in connections would allow me to downconvert to 480p instead of 480i. I'm able to record off the Voom STB at 480i, but can't figure out how to get it working at 480p. Anyone have any success with this?

Be careful, the MPAA is watching. Their lawyer attack monkeys are on 24 hour call.

Motion Picture Association of America. www.mpaa.org. Movie industry lobbying group. They killed firewire on Dish 921. They sued Sony over VCR in 80s, claiming the VCR would bankrupt all movie studios. They now claim piracy of HD programming will destroy movie studios. They're the most evil organization to come along since the Kamir Rouge. No one will stand up to them because of their bankroll.

I just hooked up my Panasonic E85 this weekend and all I can say is WOW! I'm running my Dish 6000 and Voom stb into it via S-Video and outputting the signal at 480p via composite to my projector and the image rocks! I hooked up my Dish PVR to the front jacks and it actually made the picture watchable. Our locals from Dish look so bad on my projector that I never watched recorded material from my Dish 501 but running it through the Panny really cleaned them up.

Now for the downside: I ordered 2 batches of DVD media and they are back-ordered so I can't test out the burning capability yet.

Yeah, I looked them up.

Well then, they need to sue all capture card manufactures, DVD burner Manufacturers, cable manufactures, intel, conexant, microsoft etc... I can record any cable channel currently and burn it to a DVD or watch it from my HDrive if I wanted.

But, the only thing I record are golf tips from the TGC.

No TIVO required.

Doesn't it piss you off that DVD players can't read all media. I don't get it. If I made a DVD player I would make sure it would be the most compatible with almost all media.

It pisses me off that the most compatible DVD player out there is an x-box, but it only outputs in 480i, but has the capability to 480p, 720P and 1080i today and MS did not turn it on.

I know you've said you enabled progressive scanning for dvds on your xbox. Is it easy to do? Is it expensive? Will I still be able to go on Xbox live?

My Panny will read anything out there except a SACD disc, it will even read MP3 and DVDAudio.

How hard is it? Depends, on your experience and what you want to do.

If you want to do the sw mod your self, you need to know how to telnet. You can send your xbox out and have it done for free.

I was unsuccessful in my first try. My Xbox is too new to do the software mod. MS has fixed the new dashboards I am going to get a modchip. I want to do xbox live eventually so I am going to get a mod chip.

Yes you can still use Xbox live. It's definite with the mod chip. The software update does not support Xbox live, but this may have change.

My current project is to enable xbox to for 480p for my home movies etc... and the T2 special edition in HD using the xbox wm9.

To me wm9 is the way to go for DVDs.

I don't know what type of drive is in it, but here is what it will read:
DVD-Video (burns DVD-RAM & DVD-R), DVD-Audio, Video CD, CD-Audio, CD-R/CD-RW (MP3, CD-DA, Video CD Formatted).

Thanks for the info. I might talk to some of these guys about working out a trade. My experience has taught me that electricity is not my friend :)
