DVI switcher or Y connector?

 Is spending $250 to $350 or more on a DVI switcher (RAM Electronics and others) my only option for connecting 2 DVI outputs, HD satellite receiver and upconverting DVD player, to my single DVI input on my HD monitor? There seem to be DVI Y-connectors available from a few sources on the internet for a much lower cost (under $50.00 @ Pacific Custom cable). Will these meet my needs? Or, is spending more on a switcher than the equipment itself cost* my only good choice? (Why?)

* Oppo upconverting DVD player, with shipping, is still less than most to all DVI switchers.

Thanks in advance for any help and info!

DVI and HDMI are two-way protocols. So, you do need a switcher, not just Y-connectors.
Alternatively, you can consider upgrading to a new AV Receiver with HDMI switching capability or using component cables for your satellite receiver.
