EchoStar Communications reported Tuesday that its third-quarter profit more than doubled, as subscriber growth swelled during the period.

The company reported net income of $209 million, compared with $102 million in the year-ago period. Revenue jumped 14 percent to $2.1 billion.

The improvements came as EchoStar reported that it added 255,000 new subscribers in the quarter, raising its total sub count to just over 11.7 million.

And people complain about Charlie? He's doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing....providing a service people want to pay for, and making a profit!

It's amazing how many people question Charlie's management ability, or make the totally ridiculous suggestion that he be fired.

He's now had a pretty good run of profitable quarters since the failed Direct TV negotiations. He also continues to gain subs which will only end up giving him more bargaining power with content providers. I also think he's smart enough to put some of that money back into his business in terms of new satellites or new technology.

This run also makes him attractive to potential suitors, although the price continues to rise.

Could they do a better job of quality control with their receivers, or maybe upgrade their customer service? Sure. But he sure seems to be doing a lot of things right....
