Enigma2 First Time User Guide North America
Edision OS mio 4K – Factory Load: OpenATV 6.2
Titanium Satellite Dec. 28, 2018

If this is the first time that you are using a STB with the Enigma2 operating system, please take a few minutes to go over back-up and set-up basics. There are many settings and options for the advanced user. Many settings and configurations can be made via WebIF to access the STB via an IP address on a LAN/WLAN, using FTP software and username: root or via telnet. In this post, we will cover the basics using the remote control (RCU).

This guide assumes that you are connecting the OS mio 4K to a fixed C-band satellite dish / C-band LNBF that has been previously aimed and optimized on a known satellite. The steps are intended as a quick overview to familiarize an Enigma Newbie with previous experience setting-up and operating a DVBS satellite system and using the Edision OS mio 4K as a replacement set top box on a working satellite system.

In the future, we will provide additional function and feature guides to help guide beginning users though motorized and multi-satellite configurations, dish aiming and optimization, plug-ins, alternative E2 images, etc.

Critical Notice: The Edision factory preloads the OpenATV version 6.2 E2 image. Please make an image backup before installing or modifying any settings. This will allow you to return or recover to the original operating system image at any future time. Keep this back-up in a safe location as Titanium Satellite will not provide images of your shipped operating system.

An image back-up may be made using FTP, terminal or via the STB to an attached HDD.These steps will cover formatting and mounting a harddrive to the OS mio 4K and creating an image back-up.

Enigma2 First Time User Guide North America - Initial Start-up
Edision OS mio 4K – Factory Load: OpenATV 6.2
Titanium Satellite Dec. 30, 2018

If this is the first time that you are using a STB with Enigma2 operating system, take a few minutes to go over this post covering the initial set-up menus for the Edision OS mio 4K running the Factory OpenATV 6.2 image.

Please be sure that you are connecting the STB to your TV using the latest HDMI 2.0 18Gbps type cable. HDMI cables labeled "high speed" should capable of passing the increased bandwidth of 4K signals at lengths up to 9 feet. Older HDMI cables often cause handshake errors between the STB and TV, video and/or audio issues.

If your TV supports 4K UHD (3840x2160) resolution and multi-standards format / frequency, the TV will display all set-up screens. If the TV is not 4K UHD or support multi-standard / frequency) the screen may go blank, display a black or blue color screen or display a warning "Unsupported Resolution or Format" during the set-up. This is normal and the STB set-up will automatically cycle through the available formats until the user observes an image on the TV screen and immediately presses the remote control OK button to accept.

Initial Start-up
  • Connect a HDMI 2.0 cable between the STB and the TV
  • Power ON the TV
  • Connect the DC Power Cord to the STB rear DC jack

During the initial start-up, the STB front panel will display “Boot” then a number count will increase until “49” is displayed. The TV will display the OpenATV 6.2 screen then when “49” is displayed on the STB, display a Set-up screen in German language labeled “Bildschirm Auflosung” on multi-standard models. On non-multistandard TVs, the OpenATV screen may briefly display then disappear.

  • The set-up will now automatically cycle through available settings. Select the clearest video display and immediately press the Remote Control (RCU) OK button. If you did not see any video image display on the TV after 1 minute, press OK button to bypass to the next step.
  • Press the RED button repeatedly to cycle through language selections. Twenty button presses will display English (US) menu language.

Automatic or Manual TV Selection Screen:
This screen is the automatic mode detection or manual TV set-up. I strongly recommend that you select Yes to use the Automatic TV Mode Detection. If your TV or legacy HDMI cable does not support this automatic function, follow the onscreen prompts if No is selected.

Output Resolution Selection Screen:
If you see a list of available video mode selections, use the Nav Down Arrow to select the highest resolution supported by your TV.

If no list is visible, the set-up will begin to cycle through the list of available resolution settings, changing to the next resolution every 10 seconds. When an image is displayed on the TV screen, IMMEDIATELY press the OK button to select that resolution. 2160Pp is the highest resolution and frame-rate (60fps) supported by the OS mio 4K.

Refresh Rate Selection Screen:
If you see a list of available refresh rate selections, use the Nav Down Arrow to select 60Hz.

If no list is visible, the set-up will cycle through the list, changing the refresh rate every 10 seconds. When an image is displayed on the TV screen, IMMEDIATELY press the OK button to select that refresh rate. I recommend that the refresh rate be set to 60Hz.

Language Selection Screen:
English (US)
will be selected. Press OK button to confirm

Start Wizard Screen
:
Press OK to proceed

After displaying the next Wizard screen, I would highly suggest that you now select Exit the Wizard then press the OK button. You could continue, but exiting now will simplify the installation steps.

Network Wizard:
Press OK to connect configure your network connection
  • Select the WLAN and follow prompts to configure to connect to your wireless network
  • Select LAN and follow prompts to configure to connect to your wired network. I recommend that if at all possible, use LAN for a more reliable and typically faster and more secure network connection.
  • Select Exit Network Wizard if you do not wish to connect to your network or the Internet. I recommend connecting to your network as this will allow updating the image, addons, accurate network time, streaming, etc.
Remove the DC power from the STB rear panel for 5 seconds then reconnect. This will set all of your selections and display the correct language in the menus. Now proceed with the steps to make a back-up recovery image for safe keeping and install the STB into your satellite system.

Congratulations! The initial STB setup is now complete!
