I have a bunch of old dishes lying around and just found out about EMWIN. The EMWIN systems I've seen use "strange" LNB/LNA thingies that are rather expensive. Can I use one of my old 3 footers, a quad invacom and possibly something like the tigertronics ESP-96 to get EMWIN right off of the bird? What's the cheapest way to get this information?

The EMWIN websites also state they rebroadcast "on KU via Telstar-5 at 97W at 12.185Mhz subcarrier 1.065Mhz" I've never heard of Telstar-5 and neither has Lyngsat. Is anyone up on this?

These guys have a turnkey system but at the astronomical price of $2000

Satguys is one of the few websites that gets a hit when googling EMWIN and NOAAPORT so I thought I'd ask here.

The GOES East satellite was just replaced an EMWIN is now using a new format for data delivery. The signal comes down at 1691mhz.

Telstar 5 was in the slot where Galaxy 19 currently resides. I'm not sure whether that Ku signal is still being rebroadcasted.

Here is some more recent information on EMWIN

National Weather Service - EMWIN

Good Luck, Phil

I was aware of the new format, just wasn't sure how accurate all the rest of this information is. The GOES birds all chat in L-Band and I don't really know what bits I need in order to actually get that information to a computer.
