I've seen several old threads about Error Code 05 and Error Code 04 but nothing recent so thought I'd submit a new thread for HELP.

For the 3rd week in a row, my Hopper 3 DVR has failed to record Supergirl on the CW network (Pic 1).The message that is displayed is: A problem was encountered when opening the files for this DVR event. Please note the Error Code: 05. This week I checked TV ACTIVITY several times during this hour and each time it showed a decrease in remaining time and was unpleasantly surprised that when the hour was up, it showed 1 minute was recorded with the above message. I have been able to record the show prior on this same channel with no problem each week.

And it is not only this channel, 10/16 I had Error Code: 05 and only 1 minute recorded on S.W.A.T. on CBS (Pic 2). And the week prior S.W.A.T and Seal Team failed to record at all even though the timers were set to record all NEW shows.

On a 9/30 recording of Bluff City Law on NBC, it showed only 1 minute recorded with the message A problem was encountered when opening the files for this DVR event. Please note the Error Code: 04 (Pic 3) which is the same message as Error Code: 05.

I am using an OTA antenna and AirTV Dual-Tuner Adapter and have had no issues prior to this last month. The signal strength on CBS is 100. On CW, not so good with a signal strength of 87, but why would the show that comes on at 8:00 PM record with no issues but the one at 9:00 PM hasn't recorded for 3 weeks now?

I've also experienced pixelation issues (Pic 4) with my local channels (none on the channels I pay for through Dish Network) but I don't believe it's weather related because this occurs when there is no rain or wind. I read that it might be that the AirTV Dual-Tuner Adapter could have a heat build up, thus creating the pixel issues but we have installed a fan in the entertainment center and no heat build up in the cabinet.

Should I purchase a new AirTV Dual-Tuner Adapter? Even purchasing the generic brand, I'll be out $30 if that doesn't solve the problems. Would be great if having two AirTV Dual-Tuner Adapters would enable the option of recording 4 local channels at the same time instead of two but I don't see how that could work.

Should I request a new Hopper 3? Would there be a charge for the tech to bring out another Hopper? If there is, then I need to take out insurance which would be cheaper that the cost of the service call.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Ok.....but why no signal issue with the HD show on CW at 8:00 and the signal issue for 3 weeks at 9:00 on CW?
Suggestion to improve the HD signal issue? I'd accept a SD signal to have a recording each week but don't see that option with my OTA.
My husband went up on the roof to tweak for a stronger signal and what we have is the best, unless he can add an addition on to the antenna pole.
Thanks.

Did you check your signal strength before or after 9 PM? Years ago some stations would cut back on their power after a certain time. I don't know if they still do that or not. Being I have lived most of my life in the country I have also noticed that if there are trees in your close path dew on the leaves will affect the signal strength.

I would go for the AirTV dual tuner adapter even if it did not solve your problem.

Perhaps, something in your area kicks in at 9pm and causes interference, just a WAG.

Since it occurs over several OTA channels, Interference is my guess.

The new AirTV Dual Tuner Adapter does not have a heat issue. The old Dish Dual Tuner Adapter had a heat issue.

I would check your signal strength again. First on your Dish receiver, then, if you haven't already, plug your antenna into your TV and do a scan there. Stations around the country are going through a repack (move to another broadcast channel). The last round was supposed to be complete on 10/18 (more rounds to come), but there have been delays. It's possible the station (or stations) you're trying to record aren't at full power, or on temporary antennas, or both.

Or it could be a problem with the Dish receiver or the OTA dongle.

Yes, helpful, I know.

Reubenray, doubt that I checked the signal strength for this particular channel at 9:00 but will do so next week. I also have set up my DVD burner/recorder for that time and channel to see what happens there.
Don't believe the issue is dew on the leaves but thanks for that suggestion.

The old dual tuner adapter was not from AirTV, it was from Dish, a completely different design.

If you order another AirTV dual tuner adapter, it will be the same model as the first one from AirTv.

Guess I'm confused.
The AirTV adapter I have is the white one recommended by several Satellite Guy's members that is cheaper than the black one from Dish. Was told that the color is the only thing different. The paperwork that I received with my adapter said it WAS from Dish and if I had any problems within 30 days, to return it to them. This was MONTHS ago.

Who did you order your AirTV dual adapter from?

Is there any way for you to watch the program live instead of recording it, i.e. bypass the dish receiver and use your TV tuner to watch it.

Have you looked at the CW channel on other nights at 9?

Do all your OTA channels mess up at 9:00 every night?

Request Rejected

Found it under accessories.

Well, I would call DISH first or use the chat line and see what they have to say since you have paperwork that says it was from DISH. Maybe they will send you one. I have two of the latest OTA adapters, one is white from AirTV and the other is black from DISH. They both work good as far as I know. I hardly watch my spare Hopper 3, so I can loan you one of the adapters if you wish to see if it clears up your issues. Let me know.

Sam_gordon, don't have the outside antenna connected to the TV. The OTA coax is split between the Hopper and my DVD recorder. I suppose I could get a long length of coax and scan for the local channels on my TV. All local channels are fine on the DVD recorder. Unfortunately I can't check signal strength with it but will see how the recording of next Sunday's CW 9:00 program does. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.
