On Dish Networks website it says 40gb to 750gb. I found a good price on a I TB external hard drive. Why is it capped at 750gb? Can I get away with 1 TB?

1TB is not supported by Dish.
That does not mean it will not work, only that Dish will not help you trouble shoot it if it does not work.
Be sure you have a true 1TB drive, not 2 500GB drives in the same enclosure - they will NOT work.
