Just curious what your favorite mobile phone OS is.
So far I have had blackberry, winmo, android, and I also have an ipod touch.

For me, android stands at the top of that heap. Next is apple, followed by BB (based on my love of the overall phone more than anything), then WinMo (i did not have it long or it may be above BB).

I would rank BB as a device (for me) above the Iphone/Touch, but as far as OS goes, it cant touch Apple. Not even close.

What about you guys?

The only smart phone devices I've dealt with are the iPhone and Android. They both have their good and bad points but I prefer the iPhone OS over the versions of the Android OS that I've seen.

Jailbroken iOS for me.

Had a blackberry, couldn't stand it.

WinMo too dang complicated just like every other MS product.

Haven't tried the 'droid yet.

1. Android
2. Apple(via iTouch)
3. WinMo(Modified)
4. BB

I have the Droid now the phone is great. Running 2.1 with a Modified Cyanogenmod ROM. I had a Tour and Storm and the OS 4.7 & 5.0 were both slow and had major memory leaks causing battery pulls.

WinMo works great when you flash the orignal ROM when comparing it to Blackberry.

Apple's OS is nice but the software limitations brings it down for me. Apples lock on what software can be added without Jailbreaking is a deal breaker for me when it comes to a phone. My iTouch was bought for the use as a music player and occasional Video.

Android. I think of it as Apple OS without all the pretentiousness and limitations. Now if Google would kindly release an official version of FroYo....

I guess I fall in the category of not caring what OS is on my phone. I am more concerned with the UI and apps/usability of the phone.

I do not think the limits of the iPhone are in any way a function of the underlying OS, conversely any of the freedoms of the android system are actually a function of the OS.

The OS would more control things like battery life and apparent speed by efficient allocation of resources and scheduling. Unless you get an optimized android running on the iphone, it is not going to be possible to benchmark to see which one is more efficient.

well wino on its own is not that great, i find that after adding a front end to it its very easy to navigate. both pointui and spb mobile shell do this well

ive tried the apple, but the lack of ability to custize it makes it a pain to me

havent tried andriod yet, but will when its time to upgrade

1. webOS ( I hope HP can do something with this) The Palm Pre/pixi to me just scratch what this OS can do and how it COULD run circles around the rest, too bad I don't think it will get the support it deserves.
2. Android (without any extras)
2.1 iOS
3. Winmo (MS needs to get their $hit together on this)

I like to tinker too much so I'm a win mobile fan as there seems to be lots of interesting stuff I need available for it. I have to admit that my HTC TP2 does everything I need and want so there is no reason to try anything else, although I think I might like to try the Incredible or later android sometime. Meanwhile, I am very satisfied with the TP2 and win mobile. I'm a rare breed around here.

My wife wants an iphone for personal use after it comes to Verizon. She is stuck with BB for the company. She just wants it easy to use.

use her as the test subject, get her an andriod phone :)

or try some of front ends for winmo

1. android
2. Palm OS (my wife still uses it).
3. ipod touch OS - ok, but never been wowed by it.
4. Win Mobile - yeck - worst 8 months of my smartphone life.

Android
WinMo
BB
iphone

for me... still love WinMo myself although I would like Android for the bigger selection of apps to choose from. Just like Don, I love to tinker and WinMo offers a ton of options.

I had no real issues with WinMo 5-6.1, but what killed it for me was the lack of apps and that developers seemed to all but abandon it. Maybe Windows 7 Mobile will resolve that issue, but I didn't feel like waiting until Winter to find out, especially since there were other good alternatives in the meantime.

That said, there's still some things that my old Moto Q9h can do that my Nexus One can't, such as:

Use my BT headset as a headphone (great for listening to music while in public)
Watch XviD videos without a paid app or converting to another format (which I tapped out on after about 2 Dr Who videos)
Use the web browser to listen to Sirius XM online streaming through the player, giving access to channels 100 and 101 (This was because WinMo uses the Media Player WMA codecs natively)

lack of apps? i keep hearing people say thid but dont understand it.
there are tons out there

There are a ton of apps for WinMo with some still being developed. But for things like Pandora you have to use some botched together version that sounds like crap...but they do have a very nice slick version of Slacker Radio that sounds awesome.

I've been using a custom version of Groovefish for the Grooveshark music that is free...and if you dig hard enough you can find a file of the mp3 on the phone.... ooooppsss!

So there are some pluses and negatives to winmo, but I still love it myself. I've had no issues with using Slingbox on 3G for the past 3 years unlike some other OS's, all my music is on my big storage card that doubles as a flash drive for any data, hot spot has been working fine for years, and of course multi-tasking, copy&paste, and 3G data have been working fine for 3 years. But you do have to dig around to find some apps on the web, the Microsoft Marketplace is okay, but nothing like the Android OS, but OpenMarket fills the gap on WinMo. My biggest thing of sticking with WinMo is the TouchPro2's beautifully thought out slide keyboard with tilt...oh..and the $30 plan for 500 min, unlimited text, n/w, data, voice roaming, and data roaming is a big plus too ;)
