Today, the FCC eliminated the federal regulation of blackouts. It does seem that the leagues can still negotiate blackouts with local broadcasters, not anymore under the guise or protection of a federal law, but probably, only because they want to.
This discussion is not intended to discuss any political implications of this, if any, but only to find out what you think about how we watch sports on Dish. Could/Will this change the way we watch sports on Dish? Will we be able to watch more/less events? What do you think?

Are we talking just NFL blackouts, where if a stadium doesn't fill to X capacity, then the local broadcast is blacked out, or are we also talking blackouts outside of claimed territory like for all the other sports (MLB, NHL, NBA)?

The former. If outside of territory that would be HUGE..... Pittsburgh has no problem filling their stadium.... :)

You would have heard massive booms of cheering across the country if it were the later. Also, Directv wouldn't have just signed the deal with the NFL.

Ahhh... the NFL, they get billions and billions. Literally make enough money for MNF to let fans watch it for free... but they won't. The NFL got too popular for its own good.

All this applies to is blacked out games for non sell outs.

Then I think the title of the thread needs to be changed. "Sports" is misleading when it is just the NFL.

While the ruling is just for the NFL, I don't believe there were blackouts for any other league.

the NFL is the only pro sports league that has a blackout for venue no sell in home market of games. while NHL, MLB, NBA and NCAA all have regional blackout for games as in if on national channel, it's blacked out due to local TV station or local RSN having local rights of the game thus blacking them out so we don't see it with a national announce team instead of local announce team. same goes for games not in this market on RSN Alternate channels, they will be blacked out for not being a local team.
