Finally pulling the plug

After more than 25 years with Dish I am finally puling the plug.
I called and told them to put my account on hold to give me time to watch my recordings. When I was all cought up I called and said disconnect. They said have 30 days free on us. OK. Half way through, I called back and requested a shipping label for the original box the Hopper arrived in 13 years ago. They said they would ship a box AND a label. I said just a label please.

Is there a way to convince Dish to email a UPS label with no box?
There is no need to kill another tree.

For those who are curious I have replaced the Hopper with the Cox Contour DVR, which is no match for the Hopper. But where I live we are blessed with a community deal for Cox TV at $38/month as a mandatory part of the rent weather we use it or not. I can no longer afford to pay for both.

I have replaced the Hopper with the Cox Contour DVR,
Does this box have an internal HDD, or is it the cloud-based DVR? If it's the box with the clock on the front, it does have an HDD.
Regardless, it's the same hardware as the Comcast X1 platform, which actually is not that bad to use.

BTW, there IS a hidden 30-sec skip forward button on those boxes, whether cloud-based or HDD.
To prog it, while viewing live TV, press EXIT, EXIT, EXIT,0,0,3,0 which will take you to a search page, which you then just exit out of.
This will reprogram the PAGE UP key on the box, to do 30-sec skips with each press. (the PAGE DOWN key becomes 10-sec skip back)

I have the cloud DVR. The others didn't have the capacity i need.
I don't like the user interface on Cox but I am finding my way around.
The contour box is also much slower to respond to commands.

Thank you for the tip on fast forward and back. That will make things a lot better.

DiSH has set methods of retrieving hardware, if they even want it back at all. A little surprised they're even asking for a 13-yr box back (the hopper's been out that long?!?).
I don't think DISH is manufacturing new receivers anymore. If it's a Hopper, they definitely want it back no matter how old.

I'm pretty sure they are NOT asking for 1st gen Ho's anymore, as they are now replacing defective ones in the field, with HWS's, & treating them as like-for-like replacements. Part of the reason for this I'm sure is with them adding more & more streaming-only channels, since the 1st gen Ho's CANNOT show those streaming channels, while the HWS's do.

If it or any box is being replaced due to a trouble call, they want it back

What about subs that call in to replace a (dead) receiver & they drop-ship a replacement to that sub w/out a tech visit - are they wanting the subs to return any/all receivers that are not even being deployed anymore? (such as a Ho 1, VIP receiver, etc.)
Last time this happened to me, the paperwork that came in the box, had a list of receivers models that were to be taken to "electronics recycling" by the sub & NOT returned to E*.

But that doesn't involve a tech visit, or what we used to call a service call. Perhaps it helps provide proof of service call to get back the old rx. When I self-swapped a 722 they sent me a couple months back, they didn't want the old one back. Probably no longer refurbing 722.

Not sure about that, but I assume if it's a customer, they probably don't want it

What are you doing with bad rx's from trouble swaps? My policy back in the day was to take away all decommissioned gear (including C-band dishes) for the cx convenience unless cx specifically wanted to keep. Then I would handle proper recycle or reuse.

They said they wouldn't be reclaiming my bad 722, but they also warned me not to try to sell it...

The thing of it is, since E* is ONLY installing H3's (& Joey's) for ALL new subs - even if they only have 1 TV - they obviously have no need for any other full receiver models in these cases.
The only reason they would need other receiver models for their dwindling sub base, would be for replacement units on existing subs. And with this in mind & assuming they are not already doing so, they're probably going to stop doing replacements with anything other than Ho/Jo receivers. (NOT including H1's) They'll also keep a supply of the Wally's, for the camper/RV folks, which they probably have a sizable sub base.
