First SuperDISH installed

My first observation was that - "boy that dish is huge". I wonder how many sales will be lost because of the dish having more than twice the surface area of D*?
Question: Does DISH use 3 satellites for HDTV? If they only will be using 110 and 119 - why not simply get a D* sized dish. Or, why not use two small 18" dishes?

I mainly follow DISH threads because BEV uses the same equipment. Fortunately w. BEV you need only a small 20" dish to get both sats. they use.
(I am using an 18" for 91 and a 24" for 82 because of my location altho i am not sure that was necessary.)
I had thot of dropping D* after 7 years and upgrading to DISH for their HDTV w. the 921. Now that the 921 seems dead for now and the dish set-up seems cumbersome, I mite simply upgrade D* whenever they come out w. a method to record HD.

My all legacy version of the 'Superdish' is an Eagle Aspen P270DU FSS Linear Dual Output LNB bolted to the feed horn on an old StarBand 36" Dish stripped of all the junk, running into an SW64. 2 of the SW64 outputs run into SW21's which have inputs from an old directv dish pointed at 148. So I get 119, 110, 105 on the SW64 and 148 on the 2nd input to the SW21s. Have to put up another dish to get 2 more 148 inputs for the other 2 SW21's. Works with my 6000 and 508, although so far the only thing on 105 is the 'you have a superdish' on channel 7000

Scott- What are your signal strength numbers on odd and even transponders? Using a Canadian Star Choice dish, I get low to mid 50s on the odd transponders but only mid to high 30s on the even ones. Before I go crazy adjusting things I like to make sure they are equal on your system. Thanks.

Note: I'm in SW Colorado so my 'look' angle is probably better than yours. Using Eagle Aspen P270KU LNB on an old StarBand 36" oval dish.

"36" isn't even protected under the Home Satellite Act is it?"

Any dish under 1 meter is covered.

How about putting a SW21 after the legacy adapter running to your 6000? Shouldn't that get you back your fourth slot?

How would I do that? Take the output from the Dishpro adapter then where do I plug that and where do I plug in the 61.5 sat?

I know it can be done, I was sent a picture from someone who did it this morning.

Also some good news, here in the Hartford area over the last 24 hours we were hit by wind gusts of clost to 60 MPH and my SuperDISH made it through it well. :)

Scott, you got 2 cables and 2 inputs on the SW21, I doubt you need to be a rocket scientist to figure out where those 2 cables go :)

Scott, when and if Dish adds any new HD on 105, will they mirror this on 61.5 for the folks like me where Superdish won't work?

Also, a switch question? I'm adding a dish to look at 61.5 again. I have a Dish 500 with legacy quad. To drive a 721, 301 and hopefully a 921 soon, what switch will I need? I'm guessing a SW64 since I need 5 outputs.

Thanks guys.

So Scott, how is that 921 treating you? Can't wait to hear your review once the 921s start shipping to retailers. :D

"I was sent a picture from someone who did it this morning."

Suggest to your "someone" that they should not use the flash when taking pix of a tv screen. Duh!!! :)

. My wife wishes that logo was an optional sticker, she does not want to advertise to the neighborhood that we have expensive electronics in the house.

Right... because the two big satellite dishes with the 7 LNB's doesn't give ANY hint of expensive electronics inside!

:D

Correct, and you have 1 cables from the 61.5 sat and a third from the Dishpro adapter. :)

So how does that work again? :D
OK, you said you had a DP34 that came with the dish.
Three inputs on the DP34, for 110º 119º and 105º -- four outputs, one leading to your DP-Legacy adapter, the output of said adapter currently runs to your receiver. Right?

Take the output of the Legacy adapter into one input of the SW21, the direct feed from the Legacy LNB on your 61.5º dish to the other SW21. And the output goes ...
Well, I don't want to give it all away. :D

Best wishes ...

Scott,

Did your SuperDish kit come with a mounting plate, enabling a surface mount?

The reason I ask is this. I've just gotten off of the phone with a local sub, who tells me that the SuperDish kits that they have been receiving have been packaged for "Pole Mount" only?

Does that make sense to you?

I have my Dish 500 mounted along side a Dish 300 (aimed at 61.5). Both are mounted on the end "overhang" of my garage peak (not flat on the roof, but on the end of the house). I live in a two story, which provides a great deal of shielding against gusty winds. Do you know of anyone who has had the SuperDish installed on anything other than a pole?

Thanks,

Spence

Spence, my Superdish came with mounting hardware similar to the Dish 500 - just heavier duty. In other words it came with a curved pole and mounting plate that would be used for roof mounting etc.
