Food Drive end of Day 1 (Friday) at sorting location!

Well, to our new watchers of the forum, welcome! To those watching what little Ionia County can do together, take a look! A picture doesn't capture the depth of this room, but..it is multiple conference rooms each with removable walls, opened up to one HUGE room. In it as of tonight, we have around 3600 pounds of collected food. That's nearly 2 tons of food spread into properly divided piles by "type" on each table.

Volunteers tonight in unloading about a thousand pounds of food were local cub scouts and boy scouts who will be back with us tomorrow, and all were treated to sloppy joe sandwiches and other goodies by MORE volunteers who give of their time and talents to feed our workers.

We're on the road again tomorrow and Sunday, and will be posting similar pictures as the room fills with food at Ionia County Intermediate School District headquarters.

A successful day in Ionia and Portland, and a wonderful day visiting with great friends, some of whom we just met today!

We are past halfway done with the food drive, and just one day to go!

I can bet that Jim, Phil and everyone else from WION are TIRED but still going as strong as they can!

End of Day two......We're over 5 thousand pounds collected...

And, as you can see, many volunteers tonite. Again, its people like the boy scouts, cub scouts, and their leaders that volunteer. It's great to see young people learning to help at these ages! Let's hope events like this remain in their memory a long time, and help teach them that helping others is to be a way to give back to community, and a way to live a respectful life. Final stops on Sunday include Lyons/Muir at the Lyons Fire Department, and a wrap up on Main Street Ionia in front of our historic museum, the Blanchard House. We hope to top 3 tons and approach 4 once the purchasing of additional food is done from our monetary donations. I hope the walk-through of our sorting and distribution room at the ISD gives you a little insight into the volume of cans, boxes, and bottles handled in 3 days by making this a "mobile" food drive. One more day of collections to go, then the sharing of distribution with 7 agencies on Monday morning.

The other video is to show how nice it is to have an engineer that doesn't mind stringing some high power LED flashing lights and installing our LED scrolling sign into the Food-V. A windy night, so ignore the windy and awful audio as we preserved forever the look of this year's front lighting of the "Food V." Thanks to board member, NE8E, our engineer, Scott. Yes, WION has a "Scott" as an engineer. Now if the Food V only had warp engines, we'd do better than 6 miles per gallon!
