Earlier they had a story about porn websites, getting new URLs. They showed a half naked woman and my little brother was in the room... Won't be watching this crap channel.

So you are in the same situation as those who order Dish Network or Direct Tv and pay for channels that they don't want (MTV, Soaps Network, E!, Etc.) I have always supported the concept of "pay for what you want." Your issue with Fox News was a concern of mine as well. I'm glad I have a 24-hour news channel to watch, but for those who don't want to watch it are now paying the same monthly fee as everyone else, but in a sense getting one less channel.

I guess the reverse is also true. I never watch the Spanish channel on SkyAngel becuase I don't speak Spanish, and I don't watch Kid's Television. I spend most of my time watching about three of the stations. It would be awesome if Sky Angel had more channel space available and you could select the package that was right for you and your family.

I'm sure we haven't heard the end of this, and it would not surprise me to see Sky Angel pull Fox News if there happens to be numerous complaints. By the way, I just watched a commercial for a product that gives men that stronger and longer lasting feeling. How does the V-Chip work? I think commericals should be rated, and if the commercial is given a certain rating, the V-Chip should be able to block those commercials as well.

Problem is there is not a family friendly news service.. CNN and MSNBC shows same stories.
Which is why there NEEDS to be one. :D

I can't even say that FNC is any less offensive in content than the rest of the options. The only thing that places FNC above the others for inclusion on a 'religious' service is it's conservative slant. :)

Once again we need to contact congress and push for unbundling all cable and satellite packages! Let the market drive the cost. the price for channels that people want will
will come down due to volume and the price of those like mtv will go up. The technology is there! if they can put 100's of pay per view channels into my home on a moments notice they can send me just the channels i want.

In support of Sky Angel's efforts

For some people Sky Angel can't win for trying.

If you want "family friendly" news from a "Christian worldview" tell us exactly how it would be funded? Forget it, it won't happen, at least in a 24 hour format, probably not even in a 30 minute format, although CBN does offer a 30 minute program.

Also, members of Sky Angel's Viewer Advisory Board have voted (including me) and one of the channels we wanted was FNC (and also Hallmark among others) If you are a Sky Angel subscriber and are not a member of the advisory board, why not? Sky Angel wants and needs to put together a DBS service that people want to subscribe to, and I think they are doing a good job with the programming that is available to them.

The lockout feature does work well, but if it doesn't work for you, get rid of your cable service, Dishnetwork or Directv and pitch the tv.

Whats wrong with the "BBC world news channel" or perhaps c-span

Are they "family friendly" and have a "Christian worldview"?

Would they help attract new subscribers to Sky angel?

C-Span was in the advisory boards list of those channels to choose from (I didn't vote for it).

More so than fox news channel..BBC world news is a very professionally done news cast..(It does have a liberal slant) They seem to stay away from a lot of the sleaze on Fox News. BBC World News Doesnt have those nitely screamfests fox calls talkshows. I think it would benefit Christians to see stories from around the world that often get ignored by American Media.

I'm a new subscriber and I have joined 'the board' but have yet to receive a single request for my opinion.

Since I joined the 'missing channel' in the lineup of 36 became Faux News and two religious channels have been replaced by "family" entertainment. I knew that SkyAngel was considering ADDING non-religious 'family' channels. What was not disclosed was that religious channels would be dropped/removed from the service. (And SkyAngel is considering charging MORE for the service!)

SkyAngel is dropping religious channels for 'family' channels. At least two of the additions (The Hallmark Channels) are family entertainment that I don't get from other sources. But Fox News? There NEEDS to be something better. It may not be out there yet, but there is a need.

What will be the next religious channel that agrees to leave The Dominion?

The survey about programming was back in November, if I remember correctly it was their second survey. I'm sure they will have one again (about programming) in the future.

Lets face it, Daystar and the like do not sell subscriptions and will not grow Sky Angel. :no

I strongly support Sky Angel's new programming efforts, and will begin again to promote Sky Angel to family and friends. :yes

BBC World or BBC News would be 100 times better then Faux News. I have never seen anything negitive on BBC news, and they are so professional...

I (along with many others) should try to get any other news source. I honestly think CNN or MSNBC would have been better. (maybe not much, but a little)

Some people will just never be pleased with anything Sky Angel does. But it must be remembered that no one was ever forced to subscribe to their service, and you can always cancel. If you are a lifetime sub, you probably got your moneys worth anyway so just block all of their channels and forget that you ever subscribed in the first place, and continue to watch only Dish programming. If you don't subscribe to Dish, switch over to Directv, maybe you will find better Christian programming over there. You know that Dish and Directv are "looking out for you" .

E* and D* are what they are and are not pretending to be any better (morally) than any other service. SkyAngel *IS* prentending, er claiming, to be morally better than *all* other services. By making that claim they have brought the spotlight of scrutany on themselves.

For years E* has been using the channel block and ratings block route to allowing families to (allegedly) control their viewing. SkyAngel was safer by blocking the content at the source, so to speak, by not including in their service anything needing blocking. But with the new channels, especially Fox News, SkyAngel has joined the "if you don't like it block it" brigade. And you somehow like that slip away into the secular world.

If Hallmark Movie Channel were not available would you allow Starz! on SkyAngel? After all, if people don't like it they can always block the channel. :) Just because no BETTER option is available is no reason to drop one's morality.

Since they first went on the air SkyAngel has been TRUSTED to carry family friendly religious programming. Scratch religious now and we can hope, and not yet trust, that their programming will at least be family friendly.

There needs to be a family friendly news channel that presents the current news and headlines and religious interest news. Perhaps with several news hours during the day and then looped news and headlines for the rest of the schedule. No hour long hatefests where hosts and guests are rude to whomever they are speaking over. No in depth programs covering the sinful actions of celebrities and the rest of society with no HINT that their actions were wrong. No revelling and enjoing dishing up the juicy details of people's twisted lives. No moral free reporting.

When a station shows a barely legal on broadcast photo or description and calls it 'news' they often forget that they are still showing barely legal content. Being news is NO EXCUSE to offend one's viewers. There needs to be a news network that understands that. One that can tell the story of .xxx without showing near xxx images.

When a station fails to speak of the moral consequences of the sin they show on the news they tacitly approve of that sin. There needs to be a news network that calls sin for what it is and doesn't revel in the downfall of our society. Too many stations and networks have joined the sick sad world club and seem now to be competing hard to make sure the sickest stories are on their station. Tabloid TV is now mainstream. :(

There NEEDS to be something better, and until there is we need not 'accept' anything less and call it good. We should know better than that. At least be honest about the content of Faux News.

I'm not trying to take away froim your point, but the first, "if you don't like it, block it" channel on Sky Angel was Familyland. There were many subscribers (and still are) that think some of the content on this channel is akin to porn or the most vulgar crap you could find on secular TV. Imagine people who call themselves christian actually revering the woman God chose to bear and raise his Son. The horror! Shield your child's eyes! :)

I don't mean to make light of it, but that is the realiy of the situation. People wanted this stuff blocked! Familyland was on Sky Angel before dish fixed the 4 channel number channel lock bug on all their receivers. So Sky Angel would block the channel at the source for those that wished it until the issue was fixed at Dish.

See ya

Fox news or false teachers?

Consider this, which is most dangerous Fox News and Hallmark or the false teachers on Daystar?

This is one web site you need to check out: www.discernment.org

Then again, no one forced any of us to subscribe to Sky Angel, but I'm glad I did. I would never have seen the Word Picture series on Angel 1, FaithTV and now TLN. www.crosstv.com. Thanks Sky Angel :)

At least being Catholic is a world recognized religion. Although I am not, and I do get the heebee jeebees when I hear someone pray to Mary. Then again, I get the same heebees when someone speaks in tounges for no apparent reason except for show.

I've never watched "Familyland" --- I did watch ETWN during the pope's laying in state and funeral. More out of interest in a world event than worship of the man.

I do not know whether or not the teachers on Daystar were false - but thanks for illustrating my point.

Subscribers expect E* and D* to require filtering, but do not expect that of SkyAngel. Subscribers have been, in the past, freed to let their guard down when watching SkyAngel.

Subscribers EXPECT E* and D* to have general market content that is not suitable for the entire family. They understand that regular cable channels can cross the family friendly line and with a little experience can discover which networks 'protect' their viewers by editing programs and which networks do a better job of keeping the worst off of the air.

Subscribers don't expect to turn on SkyAngel and see near naked women and a value free discussion of how the internet is EXPANDING to allow more porn sites. The truth of the story is burried and only a FAMILY oriented newscast (such as Family News in Focus from Focus on the Family on radio) will pick up on the FACT that ".xxx" DOES NOT prohibit porn sites in .com, .net, .org, or anywhere else on the internet. FNIF picked up that point and hammered it home. 'General Market' news such as FNC only tells the generalized part of the story and they do it with near pornographic pictures and NO VALUES attached.

It would be nice to have a news service that would NOT show the images being objected to (which were unneeded to tell the story) and would not be afraid of giving a family perspective.
"The Internet has a new red light district - .xxx - but it isn't going to stop your children from being targeted by internet pornography as porn will still be allowed in .com and other domains."

"Michael Jackson has been accused of sleeping with children, molesting them and introducing them to liquor and pornography. These are not good activities and certainly should NOT be done with children."
It probably wouldn't suprise you if you noticed that much of the MJ coverage doesn't bother to say that the things he is accused of are SICK AND WRONG. Sometimes it seems hard to get a look of disgust out of the anchors when they read the copy.

Anyways. It is a shame that Faux News seems to be the best SkyAngel can find. Subscribers should expect better.
