New Mexico
Hey Guys, It wasn't on my to-do list, but I seem to be getting older. To the point were I can no longer live at my remote home in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico (near Los Alamos). So I'm going to give away my 4 C-Band dishes. Two 8 footers, a 10 foot and a 12 foot. The 12 foot is an early Paraclipse model, and would be quite a DIY project to get it going, so don't get too excited about that one.

First up is my 8.5 ft Birdview on a H to H mount. It goes to the first person who can give me a firm commitment to come get it in the next few weeks. I live 8 miles down a rough dirt road. I can't help much with the disassembly and loading of the dish onto your vehicle. It will probably take at least two strong guys to lift the reflector and the separate mount. I have all the tools needed to disassemble it. You will need at a minimum, a pick-up truck and straps to tie it down.

I last used it two months ago and it worked fine. It comes with an older model dual output Titanium LNBF, and a Ku band prime focus LNBF. I still have the original scalar feed and LNB. It has separate H and V outputs. It worked OK when I last used it 10 years ago.

I've done a few mods to it. Added limit switches and a turnbuckle for fine tuning the elevation. Also an adjustment to fine tune the azimuth, but that didn't work out as well. It doesn't have a declination adjustment. That adjustment is done by adding shims between the dish and the mount.

The other dishes are mesh dishes, which I hope to store at my new home outside of Santa Fe, near I-25. They should be a lot easier to transport. I will get to those in a month or two. Please be patient about those, I will get to them. I just have a lot going on right now. I don't have any dish movers available. I use a homebrew one, which I am keeping.

We haven't decided on a price yet, but I can email anyone interested when it shows up on Zillow in a few weeks. Comes with 4 C-Band dishes, 5 Ku Band dishes and some ham antennas. Mainly 2200m and 630m transmitting antennas. Also included is a 3 bedroom super-insulated passive solar home on 10 acres. Total off grid. Only 45 minutes to the grocery store. On a good day. Be prepared to plow your way out over a 9000 ft pass in winter. I already sold my plow truck. Done with that.

It's a great place for ham radio. Very low levels of RFI. I frequently receive WSPR beacons on 137 kHz from Australia and Japan. Often the only one in North America who does.

Lots of wildlife, Elk, Bears, Mountain Lions, etc. At 8500 ft, so not too hot in the summer and snow in the winter.

Lots of adventures to be had. In 2011 a wild fire burned down our entire community, including all my satellite dishes. On the mesh dishes, the mesh was totally burned away. My spun aluminum dish looked like a giant taco. Not much left of the fiberglass ones. Just a small pile of white fibers that I raked up into a garbage bag. Had another fire in 2022, but we survived that one ok.

Here is a photo of all that remained of one of my 1.2 meter PrimeStar dishes.PXL_20250517_175148995~2.jpg

I remember that fire. A good friend of mine works at Los Alamos National Labs. He said it was a monster.

What kind of Ku dishes do you have? I might be interested in something that's larger than my 90cm dish.

Yes, it was a huge fire 😧

I'm keeping my 90 cm and 1.2 m antennas. Unless someone buys the house. Then they can have them.

I didn't mention the Ku antennas I'm giving away, because they are all kind of small. All of these have a 10.75 GHz LO. One is a WorldDirect antenna, one is the 35 inch PrimeStar fiberglass antenna with separate H and V outputs, and also a 26 inch antenna with a circular feed for 119w. I think not of use anymore. That reflector surface is the only one that survived the fire. I also have a Ka band HughesNet antenna. All free to a good home.PXL_20250517_212718063.jpgPXL_20250517_212734417.jpgPXL_20250517_212746592.jpgPXL_20250517_212851097~2.jpg
