I have found that my new LCD tv's emit infrared light that is causing my remotes to work either not at all or intermittenly. I found the solution after doing research...Turn OFF any automatic light sensing features that adjust the picture to the room lighting conditions. i did this on both my Aquos tv, philiips lcd tv's and toshibas.

Hope this saved someone some grief:)
