:welcome to SatelliteGuys Bman792000!!
Yes, you will need a modern digital receiver. Make even though a lot of the channels on the Ku side are still DVB-S. Make sure to get a receiver that does DVB-S2.

Im new to fta i have a geosat pro 36 inch dish with a geosat pro sl1pll-0.5 hd lnbf orded and a sonicview 360 pemier reciever.

The geosatpro 36" dish with pll lnb are perfect for almost all ku fta signals, the sonicview 360 is outdated. It will pick up all dvb-s channels but won't get the dvbs2 or h264 h265 stuff. Only a few channels have one of those formats on g19 .

A sonicview 360 is a 10 year box that I believe only does standard definition and only DVB-S.
The dish and lnbf are great but the reciever is an outdated box that will miss all the hd channels. Even on 97w there is now 5 hd channels. Some of them are DVB-S2.

Welcome to Satellite Guys! Agree with the others, great dish and lnbf but best to upgrade to a newer receiver or you will be disappointed with the number of channels you'll receive. I've heard good things about the Amiko Mini HD265 from Michael Electronics. It's sold by KE4EST who is a member here. You will receive a quality product with US customer support. :)

I have that receiver and couldn’t be happier.

I say if you only going to watch galaxy 19 the old sd sonicview is fine. but If you want to be a satellite scanning fool like me go for an enigma2 with blind scan.you can even add a hauppauge usb tuner to get the ATSC over the air with it.

You will need to give us more info. Make sure you have a known good transponder to use, set up in your receiver.
For G19 Ku, 12152 H 20000, is always a good choice! :)

What size and model dish do you have and is it fixed or motorized? Also, what model receiver and lnb/lnbf are you using? Any switches, etc, in your setup?

Go to a weak transponder, and fine tune your dish to maximize the signal. Then re check other channels and repeat as necessary.
How many channels did you scan in btw.

am i only ganna pick up 1 tp at a time or should i adjust dish .
No consumer dish is shaped perfectly enough to distinguish between transponders at 22,400 miles.

If you get some transponders great and others not so much, you've probably got a problem with electronics or wiring. I guess I should be careful not to assume (since, as .Raine pointed out, you haven't offered it) that your dish is or sufficient size and your LNB of the appropriate polarity and orientation to work with the satellite in question.
