I need to replace my globecast receiver, because it broke down. . I am using this receiver with a Globecast satelite dish to watch the Dutch BVN Channel. This channel is coming through the AMC 4 satelite. Globecast says it only can be replaced by their receiver. Other web based Satelite dealers tell me that any free to air receiver would work. I was thinking of the Viewsat Premier 360. I welcome all advise in order to make the correct purchase.

Any free to air receiver would work on BVN on AMC 4 ,The Viewsat is i nice receiver but no blind search.

As long as the channel doesn't encrypt, all you need is any FTA receiver to get it from its new Satmex 6 perch. Traxis 3500 is a good receiver that is fairly inexpensive.

If BVN ever encrypts, you'll have to pretty much get whatever receiver BVN recommendeds/requires so they can authorize your receiver. But as long as it's unencrypted, you aren't locked into any specific receiver no matter what Globecast tells you in order to sell you their receiver.

yeah BVN is moving from 101W to 113W...well its actually on 113W right now being mirrored

the new satellite at 101W the footprint isnt as good outside of US/most of Canada so they're using 113W as a backup...I know it was mentioned recently

I didn't know BVN was even part of Globecast. I thought Globecast only used 97w.

Now, if you do actually subscribe to something encrypted by Globecast, you'll probably need their receiver.

BVN was scrambled at one time and was on 97W.....it moved to 101W and became In the Clear

edit: originally was on 97W back in 04 encrypted.....Dish carried it too
in late 04/early 05 it went FTA when Dish dropped it from their packages (there's a shock...usually it leaves Globecast and goes to Dish)
in late 07 it was mirrored on both 97 & 101

As Iceberg said, they used to be part of Globecast WTV until they went to Home2US (and soon ADTH).

And, yes, you need a globecast receiver if you are going to pay for anything on the globecast wtv transponders at 97 deg W.

If BVN ever goes back to being encrypted, you'll probably have to get a receiver from ADTH to be able to subscribe to them.
