Yes, they are talking about the Gospel Music Channel or now just GMC. Like every niche channel it eventually goes mainstream. They really should rename the channel altogether. The programming is family friendly but they have only a small portion of programming devoted to Gospel music.

I liked it when they had different styles of music for each night of the week. It was a good way to introduce Gospel music to a wider audience. The video shows and concerts were well produced and the stories about the artists were inspiring.

The Multichannel News article makes it sound like they are now just going after more viewers for the sake of more ad revenue. I'm all for growing your market and revenue but this is being done at the expense of it's original mission.
