Hi All:

I am going to go HD at the start of August, thought I would wait for the new billing thing to change before I did anything, and have a few questions and would take any general advice I could get.

My first question is I want to go with two DVRs and would in particular like VIP722Ks because I have absolutely no OTA reception so is there a chance of getting one of these for free and paying the $125 for the other? Or really any way to reduce the initial cost of the upgrade?

Secondly I currently have a 625 and think it is really a good DVR in terms of interface and usability, usability means my wife can use it, are the VIP series similar and would there be a learning curve for my tech challenged wife?

Third I currently only have one HD TV would that be a problem for the install.

Fourth living on the East Coast of Minnesota far south east corner actually what should I expect for antenna/antennas?

Fifth I will need two BNC jacks installed in a new location so what should I expect to pay for that?

For last I want to purchase a new HD television soon and am thinking the Panasonic P42X1 or the Sony 40S5100 any opinions on which might go best with the VIP series DVRs?

Thanks for Any Input :)

The 2 DVR's may be approved as a lease if you contact ceo@ echostar.com. Go with the Panny I have one of their plasma's and it blows away almost anything still out there. You won't need an OTA module for the 2 722k's. Why do you need 2 BNC connectors installed, If you are running HD then it would be 3 for component not 2.

You'll likely get a ViP622. You'll pay more for the ViP722K and have little to show for it outside of the 2-way remote.

The ViP622 interface is very similar with a few extra goodies as are appropriate to an HD receiver with an Internet connection.
Third I currently only have one HD TV would that be a problem for the install.
No, but you don't need to upgrade and you won't see any savings by doing it now so I wouldn't bother. The only advantage that I can see is that you're 24 month commitment will end sooner the sooner you invest.

One DISH 1000.2.

BNC jacks are not used in DBS satellite installations. Only one cable is required for each receiver (including the 625). Jacks may make things look nice when not connected to anything, but a single continuous run of cable is much better. If you're going to run your own cable, don't bother putting any ends on it.

Think bigger (unless you're sitting less than 8' away) and watch out for the new and likely misleading "xx inch class" designations.

You have a good chance on getting a 722k for free, and yes the 2nd most likly will be $125. You need to talk to an Account specialist. Call Dish, and tell the CSR you need to speak to an Account Specialist. Thats where all the good deals come from.

Thanks Everyone

Whatchel1 and Harshness I need two BNCs installed because I am putting the new TV against the pantry which is free standing between the kitchen and the living room ad currently has no BNC plugs in the Wall. The DVR that goes here will also drive a TV in the bedroom so I need wall plate with a Plug for the Satellite In and a signal out for the bedroom TV. I must have asked that question badly.

It is good to hear the interface is similar. How should I connect the 622 to the Internet, does dish sell a solution? nevermind they probably do and I should just look and see what it is.

Harshness I plan on getting the TV by the end of August or early September and thought you could only upgrade so often with Dish through the Dish it Up program.

Only 1 antenna is good I was wondering how I would explain the 2 to my wife.

Boba I think I just got it. I was colling them BNC connectors because I think of, is it RG-6 cable as BNC cable but apparently the connections are F fittings thanks.

Understanding a bit more thanks
Tom
