The Golf Channel has acquired sufficient HD equipment to do all men's PGA Tour events in HD, and this has resulted in the CBS and NBC weekend PGA golf telecasts being in HD. Terrific! If you like golf, HD is the way to watch it, for sure.

But, of course the weekday Golf Channel tournament transmission on DirecTV is still on channel 605 only, in standard definition.

Does anyone know if the Golf Channel is being televised in HD on any satellite or cable network yet? Or, if and when DirecTV plans to carry it in HD? Would this be part of the millions of HD channels DirecTV promises before the next Ice Age?

Looks like Comcast in select markets is using a hybrid model for the Golf Channel HD. Golf Channel HD during daylight hours and then Versus HD at night. A little golf then hockey in HD, not bad. I would suspect Directv will pick up this model up when they expand their HD coverage later in 2007 since neither the Golf Channel or Versus has enough HD programming to fill a whole day.
