Rumors say yes
Report: Google planning its own Nexus tablet?

It would be a smartphone tradition carried over to tablets.
But unlike with smartphones, this won't be the first tablet with a new Android version (what Nexus One and S were all about).

Maybe it will be the debut of 3.1 IceCream (?)...

The Russian source has this Google Tablet rumor just as an example of an evolving trend:
increasing competition between Google and Android devices manufacturers.

The claim is HTC, Samsung and Motorola declined to do the "pure" Google tablet (for different reasons),
LG agreed and the device is expected between late summer and early fall.

Also, the article talks about the Honeycomb license tablet manufacturers have to sign.
The interesting part: devices released with Android 2.x can't be upgraded to 3.0 Honeycomb...(!?)
If true, it means the 7" Tab won't see an official Honeycomb update (not that it needs it).

I though that wasn't going to happen as Honeycomb relies on a dual-core processor that most of the 2.x tablets don't have. I don't know that for a fact, though, and I'm definitely not Google.

For the dual-core tablets running Gingerbread, maybe it would require a full-blown rebuild (ala Windows XP to 7) instead of an update.
