Well, I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with a CRS who was in the USA. The best experience I have ever had with DISH.
We went through several packages and then it took him 5 minutes to get approval to treat me as a new customer. He waived a $200 fee that the first rep wanted and agreed to give me the $210 new customer credit spread out over 12 months..
My big point was that D* was cheaper than E* since E* was going to force me to pay $30 or so per month to AAD (DNS) for the networks in HD and we have nothing available OTA. All of my neighbors that were with Dish, and have switched to HD, have gone over to DirecTV.
The big "plus" for me is that when I take my RV out, I hope all I need is my HD receiver and my old Dish 300 set up to hit sat 110. It has everything I need while on the road. I assume all I will have to do is reoutfit it with a lnb off a Dish Pro 500 and it will be set to go.
Based on the number of complaints about their customer service, I hope all goes ok Tuesday. The only problem was I could not talk him into a 722, just a 622, and I am not happy with what I have read about them. I don't understand all the problems. I had a Scientific Atlanta HD-DVR in Memphis for over 3 years and never a problem, a reboot or anything. Maybe I will be lucky.

The only real difference between the 622 & 722 is the color and the HDD size.

A lot will actually depond on your installer on my area they usually just use the 722 when the order is for a 622. So you may get a 722 anyway with out paying extra.

the 622 has that special random power cycling feature
I hope that those that posted about problems are in the very small minority.
I just checked with a friend in Memphis who still has a SA 8300HD and his experience was like mine. Never a problem of any type. Mine was on a UPS, his is not.

Don't worry about getting a 622. My 'free upgrade' was also supposed to be a 622 but the tech showed up with a 722k. He said that they haven't had had a 622 in stock for a couple months now and every 622 WO has been by using a 722 or now the 722k.

Don't question him, he said if he called it in E* would make him charge a 100 upgrade fee.

Be happy your getting a 622 for FREE, along with all of those credits.

There is really no difference between a 622 and a 722 besides hard drive space.

Hi Claude

I have a 622 because I have a few left in stock and wanted to burn tehm up..and it works just fine. Too many people make big deals about a bad reciever when the fact is..anything electronic can fail

all 722k's in our office.
We have not bought 622's in over a year.

My install was today. The 622 added about an hour to the install. Not only was it DOA, one of the lnb's was bad. My installation should have been quick since there was no coax to run.
Overall, the install took over 4 hours but I had a great tech.
All he had left on the truck was a 722. he called for permission to upgrade. I sure hope I don't see a $100 extra charge on my bill.

I'm surprised they actually had a 622. But if it was DOA and they gave him the permission (you didn't ask) then if you see the charge just call and dispute it. They'll check the records and credit you.

Enjoy your 722!

Agreed, but for anyone that still needs an S-Video out the 722k has dropped S-Video. I had to reallocate my new 722k to somewhere else because I use the S-Video out in a 4x1 S-Video dist-amp to feed multiple sources from the 622 like DVD recorder, Channel Vision Modulator, SlingBox HD, etc.

The 722k only has composite (sheesh), component and HDMI. Problem is my really big Sony XBR rear projection was just 1 year away from HDMI so I only have component and S-Video inputs on it. An to add insult to injury, only 2 component inputs! So the 622 takes one, and I have to run my Apple TV, Blu-Ray, Sony HD camera and output of the DVD recorder thru a 4x1 component switch box. Thank Logitech for their Harmony One!!!!!!

I hate to hear that. I planned to feed the SVHS and audio to an old Lite-on HD-DVR so I could save stuff like concerts and music videos, edit out the commercials and burn to SD-DVD. Even though they are just SD, I have a Sony 1080P upconverting DVD player and they look pretty good on a 47" LCD. They look much better that SD off Dish. (I had been using a SA-8300 Comcast box) Oh well, I guess I will just have to see how well composite video works. BTW, Sony also dropped S-VHS from it's newer home theater A/V receivers. NOW, if I win the lottery, I can spend it on a Hauppauge HD PVR #1212 and a stand alone computer and then feed RGB Component video and digital audio to the computer to edit and burn.

Really troubling that there's only one set of audio outputs which makes thing even more difficult. Can you split the audio outputs (RCA) with Y cables or is one asking for trouble?
Don't know. You could try. Mine are empty at the moment. I am only using the optical digital audio out.
